home patrol 1 external speaker

How do I connect external speaker to home patrol 1? Bought the uniden BC 20 and it gets no sound threw the head phone jack. Do I need to connect it to the line out? Says its a 20 watt powered speaker

Since I have bought the uniden BC 20, wondering if need to get adaptor and plug in the line out jack? Did not work in head phone jack

I don't know. I have a couple of Lenovo X200 tablets, and I can not get sound into them from the HP-1.
But it works in other machines and in the audio in jack in my car.

I dont know much about the BC=20, but maybe this will give you some things to ponder on.

I would take a look at the specs on the HP-1 and make note of the output impedance and try to locate a speaker (system) that comes close to that impedance. And make note on the output level of the headphone versus the line out. The line out may not be as strong as the signal on the headphone output.

Here is what Uniden has to say:

Phone Jack - 3.5 mm (Stereo Type) - 32 ohm (Stereo headphone) - 64 ohm (Earphone)
Line Out Jack - 2.5 mm (Stereo Type) - 600 ohm for Audio Output


You should not have too much trouble matching up a passive speaker getting close to the desired impedance. Or.....as mentioned, get a pair of active (powered) speakers and you will have plenty of headroom and lots of control over the output.

You are not going to get much audio out of a non-amplified speaker when trying to drive it from a headphone jack. As JASII suggests, you need an amplified speaker.

Thankyou for your help, I bought the uniden bc-20 and paid good price for it . And didn't pay attention that it was not amplified. So will have to get the BC 23

Another option is something like a "Jambox", which is a portable amplified speaker with an internal rechargeable battery. Primarily it's for Bluetooth, but it has a 3.5mm stereo jack (and comes with a patch cable). Good battery life, loud audio, and works out well for music, too.

Cant get this to work either, has wires on it to power off vehicle. Wont work for home use

Home Patrol External Speaker

Getting 12 volts DC in the home isn't a huge challenge. You just need a power supply of some type. You could attach a cigarette lighter and then get one of the Radio Shack wall warts that converts 120 volts AC to 12 volts DC. That is not the only way to do it, but it is one way to do it.

Easiest is to connect it to a stereo via the smaller LINE OUT center jack on the home patrol you goto LINE IN on
boombox or Stereo input or TV input .Radio shack has a mini jack to RCA out wire
The 3.5mm jack is for a speaker but the jack below it is a Fixed level,so its great for stereo or car stereo hookups.

The other Center fixed audio jack is 2.5mm

most older boomboxes have LINE IN !

Found what it takes. You gota have Tripp Lite PR-7B power supply. It is made just for this, CB's, and that. So with this and the uniden speaker you have a lota money in it. But is what it takes.

Jambox from Jawbone. They make a bunch of Bluetooth stuff. It's probably in the neighborhood of $100, and be sure to check Amazon, too.
