Hi everyone, I am unable to successfully download Sentinel on Windows 11. File explorers, asking me for an app to use to open the program. Any help would be appreciated. I have checked the.net framework 3.5 box in windows features. Thanks!

If something is asking for an app to use, it would seem like you have the sentinel file downloaded. If its saying anything about microsoft store and trusted apps, that easy.

If not, Win 11 itself has a built in utility for compression and uncompressing files. They call it Windows File Explorer.

From the web,,,

Why can't I open ZIP files in Windows 11?

Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Choose default by file type. Type . zip in the search box, click on whatever it currently shows as the default, then select File Explorer and click the 'Set default' button.

You can try this, and if it does not work, just download 7-zip Downloads as an exe file.

Make sure .NET 3.5 (which includes 2.0) is enabled in Windows Settings. (I hope I'm not confusing software tonight)

I was able to download Sentinel last evening and it’s really improved my scanning, thanks everyone! I have another question that I would appreciate anyone’s thoughts, is upgrading the SDS100 with the DMR and Provoice, I think there is one more package that I cannot easily recall the name, worth the cost? Its looks like it’s around $150 for all three upgrades on Uniden’s website. I’m new to this hobby so appreciate the help. Thanks!

Depends what's in use in your area and what may be in use in the future. Provoice is the 3rd and not much of it around, and is end of life. Post your county and state so we can see whats in use by you in the database.

This is probably the 3rd time this week alone I've posted this list but if you have no intentions on monitoring any of the following, don't waste your money on Provoice. It's the oldest voice mode of the 3 paid upgrades (DMR/NXDN/PV) and has been long EOL'ed (2017).

DMR is the most common & widely used of the 3 so if you were to only choose 1 upgrade to get, go with DMR. Again it would help if you posted where you're from so we can get eyes on the RRDB to see for sure what's in your area. Welcome to the RR forums!

NXDN. Can't know for sure if worth the cost without knowing where you're from

I downloaded Sentinel BCDx36HP to my new Windows11 machine and ran into the requirement for .NET2.0.
Here are my versions of .NET (attached)
How to proceed?
Thanks,

Sentinel installation requires .NET 2.0 specifically.

To install .NET 2.0....

In the Windows search bar, type "Windows features" and click on "turn Windows features on or off"

Once that window populates, look at the checkbox next to ".NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)”. If that box is not checked, be sure to check it. Then click OK. After that finishes, reboot the computer and try installing Sentinel again. If your computer has Windows 11 running in S mode, you will need to disable that first.

And just as a reminder, it doesn't matter what the latest version of .NET Framework is installed, one must turn on this setting. It's already preinstalled, just turn it on!

Unlike most SW, .NET is NOT cumulative. Having a later version installed and enabled is not the same. They are not backwards compatible.
