I’m hoping someone can help me manually program a TG that is not in the database into my HP-1. I do have the extreme feature and I also have the Extreme Edition Manual but I’m just not getting it :( Any help would be appreciated!!

I'm probably wrong, but if I'm not mistaken, any TG must be associated with a known Trunked Radio System? What Trunked Radio System does this elusive TG belong to? And then, how did you discover that this relationship exists?

With or without extreme version, you need to have the system it belongs to in a favorites list. You can't "add" to the database.

Create this favorites list by drilling down in the database to your system involved, and then right click append to favorites list. You name the list if it is a new list, otherwise you pick one.

Then, if your particular talkgroup is not included, edit the favorites list. Go to whatever department you want it in or create a new department. Then add the talkgroup. When you exit the favorites list it will save. Then upload it to the radio.

With the extreme version you can do all this from the radio by editing the favorites list, which can also be created on the radio with extreme.

I would recommend doing in the software with or without extreme so you have it backed up.

Thanks for the responses. The talk groups I want to add are in a system that I already have in a favorite list. Just to be clear I can add the TG’s using Sentinel ? I always thought that had to be done directly on the keypad of the radio itself.

With the Extreme update, I think you can only add TGs that are already in the main dB. You would have to use Sentinel to add an unknown TG.

With Extreme - you can add, delete or create an entire system within the radio.

You need to drill down to the dept, add channel, name then TG number.

Hold on the system - then tap to enter advanced - edit - etc etc. rest is pretty much self explainable.

That said - don't want to do it:)

I actually tried it (I like to confirm what I post), but found I could only add TGs that were part of the main dB. I could not find anyplace to enter a new TG.

advanced
edit current system
edit department
FIND the dept (or create a new one)
Tap on the dept from above
Edit channel
Create a new channel
Input Channel Name (actually the TG name)
Select Service type
TG id
Accept and done
Processing it then it is added,.

Now I have a garbage TG I need to over write using Sentinel :)

OK. I was using the ADD CHANNEL option rather than the EDIT CHANNEL option.

Hopefully the confusion in this thread has been squared away, but the answer is yes. You can add talkgroups or frequencies not in the database using Sentinel with or without the extreme upgrade.

If you have the extreme upgrade you can also do it in the radio.

As I indicated in my previous post, I would recommend doing it in the software because you have it backed up that way once you've uploaded to the radio. You could do it in the radio and then upload it to Sentinel but depending on how much you are going to add its probably quicker and easier in Sentinel. Adding a whole system in the radio is theoretically and absolutely possible to do. Doing it would take all day.
