Time to run for county commissioner and defund the radio system :)

Defunding the radio system won't do you any good; they'll just move to MARCS and still be encrypted. Decisions like encryption are made at the agency level, not the radio system level.

Are the Bellevue and Willard channels still in the clear?

25776 Sounds like its Fireground 1, heard while digging through calls data.

25700 Sounds like a County EMS channel.
Units heard were,
301, 511, 424, 321

Are you confident of that? 7xx units, 705 and 701 I think it was. Are 7xx Greenwich? I wouldn't know since I"ve never monitored them.

And if anybody reading this thread does know the typiccal unit numbers in use by all the various law enforcement, let me know so that I can add it to the Huron County main wiki. Right now there is just EMS information in the wiki (the county wiki, not the trunked system wiki)

Mike
700 units would be New London

Actually encryption is decided by the EMA director. He's making all police encrypted fire and EMS will not be encrypted.

Seems like it should be up to individual agencies....

My county is expected to hire the Huron County 911 coordinator as our new 911 director. I was hoping to get someone that would reconsider turning off E. We have been without a 911 director for 3 years.

Sadly, many EMA directors have small appendage complexes and tend to want to flex a bit. Trumbull County being a perfect example. The guy probably couldn’t cut it as a cop or firefighter and wanted to make a so called immediate impact on public safety so encryption was his big contribution.

How about narrowing your brush a bit and amending that to some EMA directors? Most EMA directors I've met (and there are many) don't try to pull that kind of dictator stuff, even if they're in charge of the money. They have a sit-down with the stakeholders and discuss options, and the solution is a team effort.
