It's a minor annoyance, but the Wiki page makes you have to sign up with a new password to be able to post stuff. This is a problem with the internet is you're passworded to death. So I didn't sign up cos I don't wanna hafta remember yet another password. I wish there was a way we could just post to it or use the same login as RadioReference.

I used the same user and password when I signed up for the wiki. You don't need to make a completely separate user

I've been watching CNN & Fox news for hours and so far I've seen nothing besides a few fallen trees and a tile falling from a roof. Will this turn out to be nothing more than power outages and crane repairs?

I agree Natedawg. The media seems to be exaggerating a little at this point. I know Miami got it bad with a lot of flooding, but places further north, all I am seeing on the news are some fallen trees and wind/rain. If it was THAT BAD, news reporters would not be outside reporting in the first place. It is a CAT 2 now and weakening.

Yeah, what's up with that? A few hours ago one of the CNN reporters was basically ordering someone to go back inside their house, even though the reporter continued to be outside in the same area for hours:confused:

Bad enough that public safety agencies deemed it too dangerous to respond to call and are stacking them. 80% of Miami-Dade without power. 2/3rds of Broward. Constant tornado watches and a few touchdowns. Lost power here...but still have booze. However that is being diminished.

Apparently the looting has started in Broward already and there was an armed burglary in west Broward and bad guy was shot by Deputy.

On the Orange County Fire feed they just gave all-call announcements about a "no-response plan", apparently each station will determine on their own if it's safe to respond to calls.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue did a similar thing. The radio traffic has died down a lot. TECO has suspended all responses, even though FD has been on scene of numerous live arcing wires-down calls that remain a hazard.

Was wondering how they will handle all those different Power companies coming in.
FP+L handing out one or two radios per gang? One news story say guest line crews integrated
with one or two FP+L crew managers or Tampa electric etc.
Understand guest crews will work a block or so but leave the area and FP+L guys will do
the actual switching on in various grids.

Alabama Power Co., Georgia Power Co., and Florida Power are all owned by the Southern Company. They've responded to enough of these that I'm sure they have some common frequencies.

I wonder how because FP&L has a VHF DMR repeater up here in the Lake City area with a few also in other parts of North Florida but they have UHF DMR repeaters in other parts of Florida. Georgia Power I believe uses the Southern Link service or something else if I remember correctly. As of right now, there aren't any dual-band DMR radios out on the commercial market. So I wonder how they would all communicate unless they have several different radios in the trucks.

Southern Linc is owned by the Southern Company. The Southern Company owns the major power companies in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. (There are some smaller companies, usually co-ops.) Southern Linc also provides iDEN service to all four states. Based on that, it would seem logical that they would be able to communicate among themselves. Furthermore, it would seem that they would also provide the majority of manpower to complete the tasks.
