I downloaded Icecast with the assumption that it was a self contained program.
On the download page it also states, "In addition to icecast, you will most likely need to download a source client for creating the actual stream. We suggest that you download one from our 3rdparty applications page."

All of the on line references seem to use Winamp, yet, a link to Winamp isn't provided. I'm planning on loading this onto a "thin client" so the program(s) to be used to stream audio need to be as simple and small as possible.

In addition to Icecast, exactly what do I need to load. Any published tutorials are also appreciated.
Thanks - Happy Holidays

Hi Nydxa:

FYI - I put together a tutorial a while ago for streaming alpha tags using Icecast/Oddcast & Talkgroup Monitor. Let me know if you are interested, and I will e-mail it to you.

Icecast (as well as ShoutCast) need for another program to send them the audio that is to be sent to listeners.

If you're using Windows Edcast (used to be called Oddcast) is probably the lightest client there is. If the machine is running Linux then you should check out DarkIce.

Looking on the Icecast site I see that Edcast DSP references WinAmp and another version with "Jack ?"
Toa newbie like me, the documentation is very confusing.

Whivh version can be loaded on a Win XP machine, and run with Icecast?

I use Icecast, with the standalone version of Edcast. Is really easy to stream directly from soundcard input to Icecast server, with edcast.

All three should work but, yes, you should go with the standalone version.

Many thanks

Thanks - this really helped!
This should be a "sticky" document - it can help others!
Happy New Year!
