These things can do digital (and decryption) since the processing is on the computer and not the scanner, correct? What program supports this?

They don't do digital (directly)

I don't think anyone has PC software to do P25.

You can't decrypt encryption (with any reasonable amount of time and equipment).

Wannabe, when you figure out how to program yours, lets talk offline. I live in Buffalo Grove and am stummped on how to get the three different software I have to work properly.
I guess I'm just archiach as I can't figure out how to build load files other than programming each individual frequency one at a time.
The thing works great on the frequencies I have been able to get programmed though.

Capitalism at it's finest. The price is now $100 plus $6 shipping. This may start to slow sales some considering the market is becoming saturated and the price is continuing to rise.

Cant blame the guy for trying :) But appears he hit max saturation, for the price-bet ya see the price come back down-I think I would much rather sell 30 @ $50.00 or $$65.00 than 1 @ $100.00. Oh well cant blame the guy for trying-thats whats great about free enterprise.............

He must have slept through the pricing lesson in marketing class.

He should have started high and come down.

Well, he can still get a job at Chrysler!

Understood...what I meant was that, provided you had the [correct] key, you would be able to listen to encrypted communications (with the software whether from ICOM or 3rd party...as the radio is simply a radio with vast tuning capabilities).

Cool, though I haven't even got the serial cable or DC adapter :) Was really just an impulse buy...

You would need the encryption system implemented in software for a PC, which to the best of my knowledge does not exist (outside of the labs of the people developing these system).

Yes, even if you had the software you would need the key.

Received my radio this morning. Hooked up and it works great!
Also looks good as new IMHO.

Mine just landed. I have too much outside work to do to mess with it right now. Perhaps the rain can help me out.

This thing looks like it was handled exactly twice. Once to install and once to pull.

What is the consensus on which software package to use?

All though there are several to choose from, I settled on TrunkPCR. It also depends a lot on how you intend to use it.

Got mine. (Second one, since the first was DOA).
Seems it works well.
Have to find some spare time to play with it.

When I go to RS what cable do I need for computer control?

I will need a serial rs232 connection.

Get a standard RS232 serial cable (not a null modem cable), with a DB9 male for the radio end, and a DB9 female for the computer end. Unless your computer is really old, then it could be a DB25. Take a look, it will either be 9 pins, or 25 pins. If Radio Shack doesn't have them, check computer stores.

Normally is will say on the label of the AC adapter. If not, look closely on the molded part of the plug, it might be embossed on there. If not, a DC volt meter will help. Center pin + positive is pretty much standard, but there are exceptions, so be careful!
