Looking good. Thanks for posting palmerjrusa. Wish Icom would get moving on this for the USA. I hate the teasing. Am leaning on getting one, but depends what the USA specs will be.

Wouldn’t hold your breath on a R30 replacement. IF one comes out, won’t be for some time. Wouldn’t mind if Icom came out with a dedicated HF handheld.
Yeah I agree with that. Guess we’ll have to stay tuned on the net and see what happens. Or I’ll just kick it and get the ICR-8600… lots of bang for the big bucks on that one!

Anyone with insight: did ICOM need to release a new radio for marketing and w/ all the encryption in today's safety forces decide to call this an aviation receiver, or did they build it ground up targeting avgeeks?

I am an avgeek, hoping the performance is designed for civilian and milcomm.

My personal thought is both uniden and Icom know encryption will take over most police/fire in the near future. So there new handhelds do not have P25. Focus more on air and rail. Am hoping both companies make money on these new units so they keep building scanners/receivers.

I don't think this is true, might be in some areas/counties, but around here P25 encryption is very light.

Personally, I think Icom will produce a follow-up to the IC-R30...

I’m not sure what they (Icom) had in mind with the R15, but clearly from the announcement of this receiver, it is intended for airband, railroad, etc. monitoring. I also don’t think it’s a replacement for the ICR30 (Maybe a follow up receiver in the future)?? Looks to be targeting all air bands, commercial, civilian and military. Guess we’ll see once it’s released.

I agree with both posts above, guess we’ll have to stay tuned and see what happens. I have the ICR6, thinking of getting the R15 as an “add on” to my receiver collection.
A replacement for the ICR30, that would be cool!

I hope your right but guess we will see on icoms next radio in a few years. Encryption is spreading in minnesota faster than I would like. The poorest counties will be last if/when they get funding help. Expensive to go encrypted from what I have read.
