I make a four day trip to Indianapolis every year for family reasons and, in the past, remember being able to listen to the IMPD and fire dept chatter on my scanner. Nothing breaks the squelch on this current trip with a new SDS100 leading me to think the IMPD system is now fully encrypted. However, the data base indicates only the Secure Operations talk groups are encrypted but not the primary and secondary dispatch groups. Does the data base need an update or am I just missing something?

Since all the frequencies, including the control channels, are direct from the data base, I am thinking the data base might need something revised.

Since the live feed on Broadcastify still works, I'll make the assumption that some of the talk groups remain unencrypted.

I spent all weekend listening to IMPD. There might be an issue with your scanner
That might indeed be the case. I noticed last night the antenna I inadvertently brought with me was a Diamond dual band ht antenna instead of the Remtronix and the Diamond is tuned for 2m and 70 cm. Nevertheless, I would assume where I was, northern part of the county, a few miles south of Zionsville, the signals should have been strong enough to receive something. I will be back in Florida tonight so it’s a moot point until next year when I come back to Indianapolis for a few days. Thanks for the responses.

IMPD is not fully encrypted. The investigations TGs, SWAT and some other TGs are encrypted. The main dispatch channels are in the clear. Something is either wrong with your scanner, or your programming was inadvertently changed.

The area around Michigan Road and I-465 is a RF rich environment. This and the accidental antenna selection may be contributing factors. I have noticed on my SDS-100 that some cellular sites will overload the receiver and drop the system.

Depending on where you are could be cell site overload, I had that once down at the Pompano Service plaza trying to listen to Broward

District 3's, Inv 3, Covert, SpeOps, 4 New S1 Tacs, and the special details are E. All others are clear.
