Greetings from Saylorville Lake (Des Moines Area).

Been an amateur Radio operator for 30 years (call KD0ZV). New to scanners and my 996XT which is my first scanner ever should arrive tomorrow. Actually, I guess I have a handheld Racing Electronics scanner I bought for cup races if that counts.

Name here is Pat. I live in Central Iowa.. I have been a licensed HAM for almost 20 years.. I have monitored scanners since I was in Jr high.... I mostly listen to Public Safety, DOT, amateur radio... Would listen to more if I made more time to program scanner...
I need to upgrade scanner here sometime for p25 p II.... I have mainly used Radio Shack scanners in the past Pro-92 and I believe the last is a Pro-197 handheld with led indicator lights... Looking for recommendations....

Hi from NE Iowa the Decorah area....Decorah has gone Digital along with the State so a New Scanner is coming.

Decorah City and County use P25 phase 1 Not sure of the change date as I kinda left the hobby for a year or so..But Signal is Great and County Coverage is much better than the old analog,,Fire Still uses the old Analog system.

Seems Decorah PD and Winneshiek County have gone encrypted fully..Anyone else from NE Iowa? Fire and EMT still analog. Been silent for a week now on my 3 scanners.

I heard a short burst of activity this am,But can you still hear the PD and the Sheriff's Dept? They both use the same freq most of the time. It used to be a very strong signal for me and busy,I turned my Whistler ws 1040 to just that freq all day yesterday and did not get one hit,,So it has me thinking if they are in transition to a new system..I can hear Waukon pd,Fire and Roads just fine on analog and also Decorah Fire and EMTs.. I am in a dead zone in the river bottom but Decorah was always a strong signal before the past week or so..Head scratcher!

No problem at all the Sentinel Software has everything correct, with the location of the SARA tower being up North the new system comes in much easier where I am. I'm directly West of the North Walmart on Roy Key.
I have the scanner set on ID Search to pick up anything new in the way of TGIDs

Trying to get this system on our SDR DPS+ software. Do you have the control channel frequency for the Ames system?

Right now I have no easy way to check the control channel freq. This 436 won't hold on or show the frequency.
It's been so long since I programmed my other radios sorry.
