How come you can't access other special characters ( | : ; ' ", ! etc...) in text tags of systems/sites, groups, or channels when programming in the scanner or with programming software on every uniden made scanner except the homepatrol series, and the only way to add them to your text tags is to either have them already in the database your loading it with or copy and paste them in the text boxes? It makes no sense to me.'

the Hoosier state, baby.
I don’t know about the 436/536HP’s, but the original HP-1 and the HP-2 are more or less plug-and-play units. Not as “hands on” as Uniden’s other models that allow custom channel/group text tagging.

The only software I have for a non HP family of scanner are Butels ARC15. In the scanner the characters you mention are absent but ARC15 allows me to enter them. And you say that those special characters then can be programmed in the scanner and the display will show them? I checked my 346 and it has the same limited 15 special characters as the BCT15 has.

I agree, it doesn't make sense if the display memory already has those characters stored.

Enter them as ASCII figures: ALT + Number. For instance ALT + 59 is ;

I keep a text file, done with Notepad, on my PC with all special characters like the ones for degree ° square ² and half ½ and so on, together with their Alt+number but usually I can just copy and paste from that text file.

But what Pr999 inform us about are that the scanner doesn't allow them to be selected but the PC program will.

What version of windows are you using that charmap.exe doesn't exist?

You can even map it to a keycombo.

It wasn't any easier, start the exe file, mark the character, click the mark button, click the copy button, or mark the actual character and select right click to copy if there are several characters in that mark line. It's easier to click on the text file on the desktop and then just mark and right click for copy. But that character map has all the characters available to you if you need one that isn't already in the textfile.
