When you're not hearing a site you need to search for new control channels or run UT/Pro96Com.

Pro96Com is showing some really screwy data right now..

But I'm receving 002-0101 Mark Center on 381.0875 right now.

Come on MD peeps. It took me going all the way to Pt Lookout today to go fishing, to discover the 015-0909 site (formerly 001-0808 as far as I can tell). It's got to be Webster Field. No signal at PLO, but started picking it up while heading north on Rt235.

Current control was 386.7125

Alternates are
386.2750
388.1125
388.6500
389.4375

Adjacent sites: Only Pax NAS

Logged two unidentified TGs on the Pax site.
23007
22167

On the Pax site I found
388.5125 alt cc, voice,data
388.3625 alt, voice, data
386.8500 alt,voice
386.6500 alt, voice

380.4375 and 380.8625 did not show on Pro96Com

That's a huge number of frequencies considering the size of the Webster NOLF - it's basically used for UAS testing, and not particularly teeming with users. It does have a co-located USCG small boat station, but they have their own system. I wonder what justifies a unique site vs. extending the Pax cell?

It's the federal government. Normal justifications based on silly things like the number of users don't apply.

I presume this site would be out of range foe Anne Arundel County listeners, except when it is associating wit PAX, which serms to associate with the Naval Academy.

Direct monitor on those frequencies are probably out if range.

Did you get some good Rockfish for Christmas dinner?

Skunked

The Webster Field site seems to be relatively low power. By the time I got to Lexington Park I don't think I was receiving it, granted I was in my truck and just using a RS 800mhz antenna. The site will carry to the north when atmospherics are good. That's how I originally discovered it from Loudoun as 001-0808 in 2007. Tropo ducting brings in all systems from down that way.

In an old thread I mentioned "received with 1-2 bars while using a RS800mhz antenna + GRE super amp on my BCD396T while at Solomans Island, MD."

I logged the system patches while monitoring the Webster site.

100 Belvoir FD with 8025 WRNMMC FD old
142 with 8025
501 and 593 are patched with 8426
22445 with 9428

Checking the TGs logged by Pro96Com
Webster site: 22100 Pax FD and 22158 Pax PD
Additional unid TGs on the Pax site: 22152, 22159, 22176, 22179,
Also logged 22430 WRNMMC Fire via the Pax site.

It's been quite a while since I ventured to MD/DC/VA area and I plan on doing a road/scanning trip. Has there been any new happenings on the JNCR system that is worth discovering?

The only things I've noticed are some testing late last year of Phase 2 and that since Andrews came onto the system, you can hear them and several other what I'll call "oddball" talkgroups on the Fort Meade and USNA sites - things that generally make no sense to be hearing on those sites.

Thanks Troymail.

I kept a good log up until last year of the happenings on the 1B5C8-001 System and the DOJ IWN network. I'm not sure if those are worth monitoring, what do you think?

I periodically listen to the 1B5C8 system. At one point, alot of users were using private call for "chit chat" thinking it was ok since it's 'private call' and probably believing it was all encrypted - neither were true (then). Nowadays, nearly everything is encrypted. The only exceptions seem to be new connections supporting external agencies like the fire department.

I think I programmed up some IWN site(s) but never heard anything. That's probably all encrypted too, isn't it?

On the IWN system it varies day to day, I would say 80% encrypted but every so often you have a user in the clear and you can identify the traffic more easily. It is your typical FBI surveillance traffic, the radio IDs were in 330xxxx pattern and the talkgroup callsign (Sierra X) is consistent with FBI/DOJ designations.

IWN is interesting, I've been trying to track a lot of it down for months. FBI I hear pretty commonly, usually encrypted. Once in a while I hear clear chatter, but it's hard to capture - the PSR800 hardly ever actually records a transmission on VHF P25 TRSs even if it comes out the speaker clearly.

Fair quantity of 356xxxx activity on the 356xx talkgroups (FBI likely). Some other stuff too, again hard to pin down. I'm working on localizing RF sites right now to give a better idea of where the good listening spots are.

This discussion got me curious about the unknown federal VHF activity I was hearing several months ago in the area so I just went and looked at IWN listings in the RRDB and saw there is a Jessup site (not sure when that appeared). As a result, I've loaded the system (and a few others) to see if I hear anything.

I've been parsing out the "Jessup" site (as some unknown individual named it), and have discovered that there are in fact at least three RF subsites in very disparate areas.

The one near Jessup is definitely on the Fort Meade campus;

There's one in Annapolis (possibly on the old NSS Annapolis tower that now has VHF or UHF RF equipment visible on it);

There's at least one in the eastern Baltimore area I haven't tracked down.

All of the above are simulcast RF subsites of Site 1701.
