Johnson County Fair Traffic this year (so far) is on analog Fireground 3 (41JCF-FG3) , and it is still being referred to on the air as Fireground 3, even though Fireground 1 is now digital.

Maybe not all the analog fireground are being replaced by digital firegrounds?

FG-3 is being kept as a back-up. I was told the other day that JCS-CC2 was going to be used as the fair TG.

New Whiteland Fire

Confirmed use at 0513 this morning that New Whiteland Fire has indeed cut over to their digital voice talkgroups.

As for the Johnson County Fair traffic, so far the only place I've heard Fair Command and any units working the fair has been on analog County Fireground 3. Haven't heard any fair traffic on Sheriff Car to Car 2 yet.

I talked to the chief a couple of days ago and he said their radio guy was on vacation and all the radios have not been installed yet. So right now they are staying analog.

A consideration I was making last night as I was updating my scan lists is this: are the analog voice talkgroups these new digital voice talkgroups are duplicating going to be kept by their respective agencies as "back-up" (considering the fire service's aversion to digital voice), are they slated to be reassigned for other uses by the IPSC, or are they just going to be abandoned?

Basically, I'm wondering if once they make the transition to the digital voice groups, is there any reason I should leave the analog voice groups in my scan lists.

Whiteland Fire Administration

Looks like TG 48192 is 41JCF-ADM7-D, Whiteland Fire Admin.

Is there anything special that needs to change in the scanner setup other than the new talkgroup ID's for the digital stuff? I have had the SAFE-T network setup and working great for Johnson County for quite awhile now. Just wondering if I need to change the ID's only or other things as well like frequencies and other settings. I am using a PSR500. Thanks!!!

Just the talkgroup IDs. Be aware that Franklin, Bargersville, and Greenwood have not transitioned to the digital talkgroups for fire/EMS yet, so I wouldn't remove the analog group IDs until they've started using their digital voice groups.

TG removal

I'm not sure I would take any tg's out for awile. The new radios that the County is using still has ALL of the old Analog tg's still programed into them in a different zone. There is still traffic on the old JCS-CW and JCF-DSP. I have a feeling alot of the old tg's will be used for training purposes.

Talkgroup 7952

Heard a couple White River Fire units on talkgroup 7952 (in the database as 41JCS-TAC2) this morning refer to it on the air a few times as "Arson". Sounds like it has possibly been reassigned from the sheriff's office to WRTFD for arson investigations.

In other news, Greenwood PD got a bunch of new radios the other day. Like the rest of the new radios in the county, these all have radio IDs in the 754xxx range. These are probably new XTS2500i portables, as that seems to be what everybody else who's received new radios lately has been issued.

I do know that the County is trying to eliminate some tg's that were never used. Listening to several tg's at one time is a pain. Really there is no reason for any agency to have 50+ tg's. I was told that a few of the existing tg's would be given out to other agencies in the county. Who knows exactly what they are doing. We will just have to listen and watch for new tg's to pop up.
