• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My agency has sent us the software to update the FIRMWARE, but have provided no instructions to assist us. Can anyone here tell me how in the world to update the radio with the new version?

Thanks in advance!

Do you just have the software or do you have the firmware file too? If you have both and the programming cable, then what you will need to do is open up the f-pro program. It should be in the root file of the KPG software in the program files folder.
1. Browse for and open firmware file in F Pro
2. Check Com Port settings and connect radio
3. put radio in programming mode by holding down "S" while turning on
4. Select the baud rate on the radio by pressing the bottom side button ( i normally use 57600)
5.match the baud rate in the drop down menu in f pro
6.write to radio.

The button squences are for the 2180, im not sure what they are for the NX series. also this is all from memory so if i missed a step someone please jump in and correct me. Oh and every time you do something with your radio BACK UP YOUR DATA FILE

Hope this helps!

My radio nx700 runs with the firmwere 2.32 now. I'm trying to reprogram with new firmware 3.0 but I can not.

Because I can not set the radio in program mode after turn power on with nemu button depressed.
I started Fpro, set the COM port, baud 115200. Then turn power on the radio with the Menu botton depressed but I don't see the "PROGRAM 115200" displays on LCD.

The radio can read/write normally with KPG-111D software.

Thanks for helps.

in the KPG-(whatever it is) in the first optional feature box there should be a Firmware programming check box. make sure it is enabled, write to the radio, then try the firmware button combo.

I know that I am going to regreat this, but I need to jump in anyway.

viet5d with the lack of knowalge that you have admited to and shown, why are you trying to do some thing as advanced as a firmware upgarde, that you do not even need to do?

Leave the radio along until you have a better under satanding of radio's and how they work.

rtm8575 I have to also ask you, why does your department think you need to upgrade the firmware?
Where your radios acting up to the point that maybe doing a firmware change would help correct the problem?

For the most part, if a radio is working correctly, then a firmware upgrade is not needed even if the manufacture releases a new version.

Check the changes in the newer version, and if it is just a simple addon and you really do not need it, then for the most part you do not need the up grade.

Upgradeing firmware for the sake of upgrading is usally more trouble then it is worth.

It is like currently driving a 2009 x car modle y and now there is a z mod that does not do anything major, but every one wants it.

If a radio is working, leave it alone.

MDC-1200 Is, IMHO, a major feature to have included in a firmware upgrade, especially from Kenwood. If Viet5d drops $200-$800 on a radio, he has the right to modify or alter it (legally, of course) however he wants to via firmware or whatever. If you don't have anything useful to say to help the OP, I'd recommend saving the condescending, rude comments. You didn't "need to jump in anyway" you shared nothing useful, and took up space with a useless post.

Viet5d Im glad i could help you out man
