before i go, can i ask a question:
some basic shortwave models i've found say they get AM, FM, SSB and "continuous shortwave". what does continuous shortwave mean? is it a modulation mode?
also, the current shortwave model i have (and my first. this is the one that got me interested in shortwave the grundig FR200) does not get the ham radio, utility stations etc that are supposed to be on shortwave. however, since this model doesn't have SSB, i'm guessing this is the problem? what is it in the radio specifically that enables SSB reception?
and lastly, when i do get a dedicated shortwave radio, what othe rmodulation modes should it be able to receive (besides AM and SSB?)
