Neat collection Ridge.

the 1979 Realistic Patrolman SW-60

This one brought back some good memories. I had one of these, probably mid 1980s, but mine had a CB band instead of the shortwave band shown on yours. This radio taught me what could be heard on VHF & UHF and would later get me interested in scanning.

Nice of you to say that kat:) I appreciate it-my super-humble little group pales in comparison to the epic collections in here like yours! That SW-60 is a neat little portable-and every band still works. They really built some nice quality stuff back then.

I just bought a National NC-300 Receiver (50's vintage). It will be here in a few days. I enjoy listening to the hams, ham it up.

I also enjoy working on these old sets.

This is a boat anchor it weighs almost 60 pounds!!

I dug up this old thread to add my newest toy in the collection. Thanks to my wonderful girlfriend Rosie for this beauty. She had acquired it about 20 years ago and it's been stored in one of the spare bedrooms in her home all these years. She let me have it today when I asked her if I could put it in the shack and give it a chance at running. I got it home and did a careful inspection, cleanup, and slow powerup on my variac. Lo an behold, it runs fantastically on every band. Beautiful sound! It has a 9' oval bass speaker and a midrange both firing from the front, and two tweeters at the sides.
I already have it at the bed and it runs on the roof antenna. Oh yeah-I'm falling to sleep tonight to the warm glow of tube-amplified sound:)
Here it is-the 1955 Delmonico Novum AM/FM/SW tabletop hifi.

I have the following vintage SW receivers.
Hallicrafters SX-99
Heathkit SW-7800
Realistic DX-150B
Heathkit GR-78

I also have a few vintage broadcast AM radios that are SW capable.

I will post some pictures when I get home from work.

Here are my oldies:
Sentenal - 1941, Collins R-390 - 1956, Drake SPR-4 - 1974, Realistic Long Range TRF AM - 1976...The TRF I bought new in 1976 and logged 43 states with it. The Sentenal was handed down by my father and the others were acquired later.

very nice collection-thanks for adding them. The Sentenel-is it am/fm or does it do sw too-I can't see from that distance. That is a beauty. IMO should be by easy chair or on bed stand:) the Collins is awesome.

Thank you ridge.
The Sentinel is AM/SW. The shortwave band is 6-18 Mhz. I got a chance to re-cap it a few years ago. Boy it sounds great.

Ooops sorry Ridge I missed your reply. I won't have a video up for awhile since I'm getting ready to move. This video somebody posted will give you an idea though.:)

National Radio NC300 Receiver Demo #1 - YouTube

I have recapped and aligned mine and it holds it's own against my Icom R75 and Icom R8500. Of course it's more fun to use though, lots of knobs to twist and the glow of tubes too.

I picked up a Hallicrafters TW 2000 portable that is no DX machine but works quite well on the whip antenna.

On missing my reply-no apology needed. Heck I do that quite a bit myself-I accidentally did it to one guy in here and he hasn't talked to me since:(
these tube receivers make up in pure clean audio what they lack in modern sensitivity. My boatanchor outcopies both the 71a and r75 just with cleaner audio often times.
Your TW2000 is also a great looking radio!

a29zuk, nice TRF you have in that collection. I see the volume control was replaced.

The TRF's were (and still are) great radios, but the slider controls don't age very well -- at least the one that got used the most, i.e. the volume control. The volume on mine is a bit finicky.

I still use my TRF -- sounds a lot better through headphones than it does through the speaker.

Yes, I got tired of the scratchy slider controls. About a year after purchasing it, I eliminated the two sliders and drilled a new hole. Then I replaced the volume control with a standard potentiometer.
