that's a nice no-nonsense Yaesu! Good on you for saving it from the abyss.

As far as i know, it based on the logo with letter S on the front above the Dial knob , its-sommerkamp
i think its the same factory ,since there are a lot of radios with both names.. not hundred percent sure though

Yes, same factory, generally the same radios (some slightly different versions, but mostly the same), and different name plates. Sommerkamp was a Swiss company importing and selling re-badged Yaesu’s in Europe.

Whether badged Yaesu or Sommerkamp the FR-50B was the same radio. I have the matching FL-50 transmitter and FV-50 VFO here although I do not have the FR-50, I have been casually looking for one (and the SP-50 speaker) for a few years, just keeping eyes open at swap meets and such. I also have a matching FL-1000 amplifier, although that is pretty much a basket case.

My near pristine Trio 9R-59DS. The last hurrah for valves (tubes) in the early 1970s - similar vintage to yours truly! A bit of a sentimental rig for me: as a child this was my first shortwave receiver, purchased from a ham who made me promise to get a ham ticket too - a promise that I kept. Drifty, microphonic to the max (all of which just add to the experience of using it, makes you feel more 'connected' somehow) and ultra-quiet with no PLL phase noise but most of all has that lovely warm, rich sound that valves are famous for.

The 101's left the factory with that plastic in place. Some people removed it, others did not. I have 3 different 101's here, and 2 of them still have the plastic, one does not have any sign of it.

Thanks T. I can see why you'd want to leave it on there-more for the decals than anything. But if it's bubbling up like that, shouldn't it be pulled to prevent spotty aging?

Very nice radios all. N4SZO. Is that some kind of plastic protector film still adhered to the face?

Yes - something collectors look for- as long as it is in still good shape- i.e. not yellow from smoking/etc.

Just looking at these radios, you will find them anywhere from looking like almost new to terribly abused.

I saw the matching amp (FL2100) for sale last week. This one had rust all over the inside. Who in the heck leaves their radio's outside for the WX to rust them away?

You did a really good job on it. +1 on the bolded question-I firmly believe there are radio people out there who view old boatanchor type equipment as "junk". It's in the eye of the beholder I guess. There are guys in here who laugh at old stuff as being such obsolete senselessness. Good thing there are folks like us preserving the good ones:)
