I have restricted it down to PFA channels, Loveland fire/ems, weld fd, weld ems, and ft collins pd. It was getting real noisy this afternoon with PVH open.

Been listening for a few hours and sounds good.

How frequently do the Weld County agencies affliate with PVH site? My impression was they linked with Horsetooth and Bald more and PVH was pretty limited in coverage.

The North Weld PDs talkgroup (1938) affiliates with PVH on a regular basis (from Windsor is my guess). Other than that, it is rare. Coverage is pretty limited.

Thanks for the feedback on the feed. Curious, since the feed is in stereo, has anyone tried feeding 2 seperate streams, one on the left channel and one on the right? That way, a liistener could set their balance right of left to hear the stream they're interested in. I may give it a try.

Yes that is mentioned and done routinely on the livescanneraudio site.

Rick can you receive a different control channel to increase the weld county coverage on your feed?

Okay so I did what Jim suggested with the feed, excellent direction btw and I got it up. Now I would like someone outside of my in home network to click on the link and tell me if the IP address that listed is a WAN or if it only works inside my network. mms://192.168.2.85:8080/. I will leave it up for a little while today to see if you all can get at it. It is North Metro PD's and FD's including Weld County SO, Broomfield, Jeffco, and along with Thornton, Northglenn, Commerce City, and Brighton, and not to be overlooked the booming metropolis of homes on wheels (Federal Heigths). I would appreciate some feed back with the audio quality. I plugged it in to the Line In on the desktop and I thought it sounded like crap when it came out through my laptop so I changed it to the mic jack. I have the volume turned way down on the settings as well as on the scanner cause otherwise it is so overwhelming.

It will not work. The 192.168.0.0 subnet is what is known as a private address space. Outside computers and Internet routers cannot communicate with it. You need to obtain a "public" IP address in order for this to work.

There are many different way like using Shoutcast, Live365, Teamspeak or some of the other dedicated scanner feed sources. There is also a random ip generator software on the web which many that feed scanners use, I don't but will try to locate a link for you.

Basically all I would like to do once I get a second scanner is have a simple webaddress that people click on like http://www.geocities.com/scan_denver/scanner.asx. I like that setup because I have that address in my bookmarks on mozilla and all I have to do when I want to listen is pull down my bookmards, click on the link, and it opens media player. I would use something like you have Jim, but I'm not a fan of signing up with usernames and passwords and all that noise. I still like yours and listen to it. I have the media encoder, I just want some simple instructions on what to do next. I know a lot about computers, but obviously not as much as most of you do.

DGroves, the link to the feed you referred to above is my feed - glad you like it and thanks for the thumbs up !

Here is a link on how to set up your feed using windows media encoder.

I do like it. I already clicked on that link and that was the source of my whole problem. First of all, I have comcast. Second of all, I have a microsoft router. third of all when i clicked live broadcast and went through all the motions just like it said it told me that my internet ip address was 192.168.2.17 which is my local area netword ip. I can't for the life of me get windows media encoder to show the wide area network IP, the one that you all that are not in my network need to be able to click to listen. I unhooked my router and went straight through my modem. when i do that it tells me that it is unable to detect any IP. when I go to www.formyip.com it comes right up on the screen plain as day. I've deactivated all the firewalls, and forwarded tcp ports and udp ports, but no luck with anything i've tried. I'm sure it something totally simple that I just am not knowledgable enough to know. Someone help, please. I'm getting frustrated.

Aaah the whole router thing. Sorry I can't help you in that area as I don't have one myself and don't have any experience with them. Hopefully someone else here can assist you - good luck !!

Do NOT deactivate your firewall. This is not necessary and may expose you to attacks from the outside which are, unfortunately, rather common. Most likely, your firewall may have to be modified a bit to allow certain ports in order for you to "broadcast" a live feed, deactivating it entirely is not a wise choice.

Do this:

1. Click on the "Start" button and then select "Run" from the Windows desktop.
2. Type in "cmd" in the little box provided.
3. It will bring you to a black box looking window waiting for a command.
4. Type the following command without the quotes "ipconfig /all" and hit enter.
5. Post the results of that command here and I'll try to help.

Note: Since you are using Comcast, as am I, this most likely means you have a semi-permanent IP address. This is what you will need to use to allow others to listen to your feed, if you wish to truly host your own site. Also, I noticed that Jim mentioned some sites where you can broadcast. I'm not familiar with using them, but they are likely a better way to go as it sounds like they provide the IP address for you and probably solve some other problems as well.

NB: What sort of Microsoft router do you have? This could interfere with everything I have said above depending on how it works.

Unfortunately, it appears that you are using a wireless network with a broadcom router. It also seems likely that there are others sharing this connection with you. That will screw up everything. Your router is doing NAT (Network Address Translation) and this makes it virtually impossible for you to "provide" your public IP address which is needed for you to broadcast your own feed unless you have control over the NAT "rules."

I would suggest at this point that you look into the various sites Jim mentioned in order to broadcast your feed. I am not sure about how these work exactly, but others on this forum can hopefully provide more information. But in short, your router is the device that has the public IP address and not your computer, which is a problem if you can't control the NAT process.

What if I unhook the router and go straight through the modem? I tried that and I think I got the same result.

Have you referenced the extensive message list on livescanneraudio@yahoogroups.com? This question is answered there about once a week.

The bottom line becomes as has been already recommened to you a few times try using a commercial service for feeding that issues your IP, there by avoiding the ultimate comcast and feeding issues. Shoutcast is free and many of the colorado feeds are housed there, otherwise there is live365.com and many other similiar options.
