Hello. The other day I heard narcotics on the Troop F Narcotics talkgroup (3408). It was active for about an hour, and that was it. They were talking about using their "other radios" and "other channels," then it all went silent and I haven't heard them since. I have searched the FCC database far and wide and I have yet to find anything that looks like something they could be using.

Does anyone know if they use the nextels with the walkie-talkie feature? Nextel does have walkie talkie coverage here, but it appears to only be along the interstate which isnt a very broad range at all.

If not, does anyone know what they are using?

Try local Parish systems, and look and see if they might be running Hi band, or UHF as LA is still lic'd for those bands.

I know for sure they are not on OPSO's trunked system. I believe I saw one of their vehicles today (it was a black dodge intrepid with blacked out windows, the driver had on a black uniform that just said "police"). The car looked like it had an antenna for just about any band (it probably had 6-7 antennas on it). I will try searching Hi band and UHF to see if anything comes up.

You may also

plug in DEA La. freqs from this database. They must have at least one analog freq on that repeater.

A few weeks ago in route to BR, I heard LSP Narcs doing an op in BR and at the same time, DEA doing an op in Metro NO. It was most entertaining if you like to liste to LE. Since then I have heard DEA several times, once around McComb but because it is off of a very powerful repeater, I was not able to determine where they were.

I've tried the DEA freqs and I never hear anything. I doubt they are up here unless they have to be.

I'm in Monroe. I would only expect LSP narcotics to be active up here. There is a really bad cocaine problem here. Also, I-20 runs through here.. which is a major interstate and I'm sure lots of drugs go through there. It would only make sense for them to be active here. The only problem is finding them.

In the Metro areas.. you can hear not only Local Yokels... but whats commonly in a High Incedent Drug Traffic Area (HIDTA), you can get combined Task Force ops, including DEA, U. S. Marshals, State Narcotics, and Corrections, F.B.I., and even State Investigations units... Keep listening.. Youll get some interesting traffic... Assuming that they don't roll encryption a lot...

I know for a fact that it is a combined task force. Here is what the citys website says for the narcotics team:

"The Metro Narcotics/FBI Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional task force. The Task Force is composed of personnel from the Fourth District Attorney's Office, Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, Monroe Police Department, West Monroe Police Department, Louisiana National Guard, Drug Enforcement Administration and the Monroe FBI Office. Formed in 1982, the Metro Narcotics Unit is one of the oldest Task Forces in Louisiana. The Task Force currently has 15 Agents at it's disposal and maintains a 24 hour call schedule for drug investigations and other law enforcement requests."

I've tried searching the UHF band and I have yet to hear anything that sounded like them. I would be glad to find something that had encryption, but I can't even find that.
