I was able to make a map from the data contained in the FCC license applications / grants, so the site location data is out there. It take a little bit of research and a few hours of time to plot the coordinates. It's good practise on how to use databases and build maps.

Well when there's enough info, please submit to the RR database.

A clue are the two call signs I posted earlier in this thread (there are actually more than two licenses.) Some of the sites are still under construction according to the county's December 2021 update on the system status. It's better that someone in the county or nearby does the submissions as I cannot verify what's actually on the ground.

Not much to report on yet, unfortunately. I have a 100 and 436 devoted only to listening and recording any activity on this. I haven’t heard a peep since I would guess November. Once things start picking up in activity again I’ll see what I can get confirmed.

Once this system is up and running or at least close I was thinking about retiring my G1 and replacing it with a model that will monitor the system and allow me to free up the 100 and 436 to go back to listening to everything again. Not sure which I’d replace the G1 with. I’m thinking since I’d only be using it on this I’d go with a G2 or would the VHF G5 be better?

I'd go with the G5 especially if you ever plan on monitoring the state system and/or if you travel anywhere that uses 700/800MHz.

The G2 would work perfect for what you need down there in Luzerne but I second W7FDX that getting the G5 allows you to monitor when you travel as most every major metro area is P25 in the 7/800 band these days it seems.

In the coming week or so I plan to finally set up my computer with the SDRs and start monitoring this system full time, which was the original intention when I started this thread well over a year ago. I like the ease of using SDRTrunk, but I think using UniTrunker early on will be more beneficial to get information. I am located in Scranton so I do not expect to pick up much except for the Campbells Ledge and maybe the Suscon Site so anything on South Simulcast I wont be able to get, unless things have changed since the original map was posted on here

Thanks. My thinking is 99.9999999999% of the time traveling I take the 100 and 436 and leave the G1 home so the G2 should be fine for my needs. But I’m considering the G5 for those just in case moments when space is needed and I take it on the road.

I live in the central part of the county and get nothing on the South so it might be best to ignore that and focus just on the North.
It seems as if I was hearing some of the planned January Train the Trainer sessions yesterday and this morning but I’m busy working and couldn’t verify. But if anyone is monitoring you may be able to pick up something helpful this week.

For the price difference you'd be better off with the G5 then there's plenty of room for expansion. But that's just my opinion since I like to monitor when I travel so I can avoid accidents and stuff like that when I'm driving. I have most of the systems (well at least FD and EMS dispatch since alot of PDs are using encryption nowadays) along the major roadways in my G5.

I tried scanning some of the North cell frequencies just now today, not picking anything up.

It hasn’t been constant. Every hour or so there’s occasional key ups. Once I heard training on the emergency being pressed. But it’s been hit & miss.
Maybe I got the wrong list of frequencies.
There should have been at least data bursts for how long I was monitoring it.

Hearing transmissions right now. Something about if everyone pushes your PTT button then it just went to the horrible P25 blasted garbled audio and sounded like the Peanuts teacher.

So I can only get reception of the CC for the north cell if I am standing on my back porch, I dont feel like spending money on an external antenna just for this so for now will not be able to monitor with SDR trunk.

I don’t think all the tower sites are up yet based on their end-of-year newsletter. For comparison, the final zone for the Maryland statewide system has had its sites burning in for over a year but are not yet officially in service. The backhaul is the culprit here, but maybe the coverage testing didn’t go well either. Luzerne probably also needs to conduct coverage testing when the foliage comes out for final acceptance. I wouldn’t be too concerned about reception issues at this point.
