I have identified a majority of the parish interop channels and submitted them to the database. There are a couple of parishes missing, but the list I submitted all from the list I had.

Confused...???

Morning Gents,

I'm a bit confused. I have Bossier Parish set up so that any changes to the Parish informs me. I got a "hit" that Bossier had a "change" in the LATIE. So, I go over there and it's for Houma, LA. Now, Houma is no where NEAR Bossier Parish and "Homer" is in Claiborne Parish. So, what gives? Bossier Parish doesn't even have a 700 mhz site yet, to my knowledge. They probably WON'T have in the near future, either. :-(

I'm still "monitoring" 30-50, 150-174, & 400-512 mcs for "activity" in the ARK-LA-TEX.

Respectfully submitted,
73,

Don/KA5LQJ

Bossier does have a 700 site...

769.1875 is the control channel.
It appears they are streaming the Jefferson Parish SO thru the repeater currently.
I have also heard what appears to be several other SO's from the southern part of the State.

Yesterday I heard a deputy from the Lake Charles area that was talking to his dispatcher and he was saying he was 8 miles south of Shreveport and did not lose radio service from Lake Charles all the way up to Shreveport.

Bossier LWIN Freq

Do a search on the call sign WQJX287, this is the listing for State of LA with the 700 mhz frequencies. I have not tried them yet. I will not be back in the area until Monday.

The Freq are:
769.83125
770.10625
770.35625
770.60625
These are licensed for the Bellview tower.

Mobile & control freqs are 30 mhz higher.
799.83125
800.10625
800.35625
800.60625

There is no real need to use these frequencies... As long as you know the control channel (in post #2, for example) you do not need to know the voice channels.

Also, these may not be on the air yet. They are, in most cases, extra licensed channels for expansion at those sites. A band search in the area you are in may prove to be more fruitful.

Not sure why this was posted in this thread. This thread has nothing to do with frequencies. Please try to stay on topic.

Encryption on Talkgroups

Newby here, i have searched the forums and have not found an answer. I was wondering about encryption on certain talkgroups on the LWIN system.

Does anyone have any insight as how encryption works on the LWIN. I know some talk groups have it and some dont. IE Laffayette supposedly has encryption but other LWIN entities do not. Is this something implemented on a user level per talkgroup. I guess more importantly if encryption is available to users of LWIN, why don't all users make use of it?

While this is not the right thread to address this, I will answer it anyway :)

Each agency decides if the want to encrypt certain talkgroups. Encryption has proven to be difficult to maintain, and more costly to obtain. The agency has to bear the cost of the radios and the related costs.

Some agencies only have a few encrypted radios, some have many, some have none at all. I heard a Plaquemines radio recently that was in encrypted mode. Most calls, and even surveillance, are very routine. If a bad guy hears narcotics units watching him, it's too late for him anyway.

The number of scanner-related incidents have to be weighed against the cost of encrypting, and the cost is usually much higher.

So, most on LWIN will not be encrypted, but some agencies will elect to implement it as they see fit.

Encryption

Every talkgroup specific to Lafayette Parish is set up with encryption.(ADP) The decision was made at an executive level when the system was implemented to go with ADP encryption. It is not like the old days, with the keyloaders, etc. to maintain the encryption keys. On the LWIN, I am told the encryption happens in the controller, i.e. the computer tells the radio that the talkgroup is encrypted. Depending on the radio type, you may have to switch the secure switch to talk. On the XTS2500's there is no switch, the radio knows to transmit/rx with encryption depending on the TG selected. On the 5000's, you have to use the switch. If you are selected to any other talkgroup other than Lafayette Parish, the radio will tx/rx in the clear. The radio does not need to be reprogrammed with any keys, etc. to maintain the encryption. Even all the Fire talkgroups use ADP.

As far as cost, the flash upgrade from Motorola for ADP encryption is about $10 per radio after discount. That is dirt cheap. I am not sure of the costs associated with the controller or talkgroup setup.

3 TG's unidentified, all LWIN, CC from Sage hill, wildcard hits

18561
17513
18515 encrypted

Is it reasonable to assume a TG belongs to a particular agency based upon numerical proximity?

WFP-PS has 18513 and 18517 - reasonable to assume 18515 is theirs?

Yes. Now the trick is to ascertain the use of the talkgroup. At that point, we can add to the DB.

that'll be difficult as it's always encrypted - I'll let you know if I hear anything not encrypted

I did hear one WFPSO unit on 18513/17 call another and tell him to '10-41' which down here is 'switch to alternate channel', 18515 lit up immediately after...

I'd call it a SO Tac channel and move on.

I have heard several transmissions on 17513. Many times that I have heard them I heard mentioned the dispatcher respond as Port Allen. I am really thinking that is West Baton Rouge Parish SO Dispatch. I am assuming this. I never hear any thing on 17522 which is listed as West Baton Rouge Parish SO Dispatch in the DB. Unless it is Port Allen P.D.

Concordia SO is now using TG id 46021, no longer using the previous id (41736)
