Some 700 radios were active last night, captured by pro96com, and on air with their 911 center. Today fire and sheriff are back on VHF. Will post additional as verified.
Lots of traffic, the Wisp is open and it is snow time!

I think they had $90,000 or so left in the radio account, so that means ~15 radios that they could buy with FY19 funding. What are the RIDs that you are seeing?

Looks like Garrett radios are 2421xxx. Seems like these are all portables being tested. What RID range is Allegany - I forget (nvmd 220xxxx or 221xxxx.)

EDIT: OK, I have a history of RID 2421121 (but none of the others) operating on MD TAC Call off the Anne Arundel site on Feb 6. Hmmm.... Anything special going on in Garrett? Maybe a Garrett official visiting Annapolis?

211xxxx is a state user range - FSU has radios around 2114550, so that's probably them.

PS Garett fire and Sheriff are strapped from their respective VHF systems to 700, also looks like a St radio team is currently in the county per the sign-ins.

I'll be interested to see if fire apparatus will have DVRS like Allegany uses. It looks like they have the VHF freqs to do it, but transitioning might take a while. Perhaps they are deploying portables first, they buying and installing mobile equipment as funding becomes available.

Queen Anne's County Fire dispatch has been operating in FDMA mode today (at least for the past few hours) - maybe they deployed older radios for the storm? Maybe a lurker from AA Fire? Didn't notice this during the previous storms. Monitoring from the AA site.

It actually happens a lot. Probably not related to the storm.

I believe the Anne Arundel radios that are on FiRST are TDMA capable. During calls that AA responds to, I haven't noticed they switch to Phase I.

Listening to Howard Site today.

8501 & 8503 - Encrypted - MSP Radios

Towson U Police Dispatch active. Odd....

No Howard SHA Shop talkgroups active yet. I would have thought they would have switched over by now since Howard Simulcast has been active for a long time.

Noticing more users using NRP Area 5 talkgroup. Still being patched into/from Conventional Frequencies too.

As of a few minutes ago, still FDMA. I'm unclear if a FDMA user on another site would cause a neighboring site to go FDMA as well - I don't think so, but not sure. Seems to me it would be a FDMA user on the QAC TG hitting the AA site that I monitor.

FDMA subscribers on DDM talkgroups will only force FDMA on the site to which they are registered. Other sites carrying the same traffic will negotiate the same deal based on whether they have any FDMA-only subscribers registered.

Allegany county bad weather for FIRST and other systems
WCBC Radio
Wednesday’s snow, mixed precipitation and thundersnow hampered radio communications for a short period, however the county experienced no other major incidents or injuries.

“During the thundersnow event Wednesday morning our radio towers on Big Savage and Dans Rock were struck by lightning,” Emergency Services Deputy Director Roger Bennett said. “Our radio service was diminished for approximately 1-hour. We also had county radio maintenance technicians check our Warrior Mountain tower.”

The weather also caused the Allegany County Joint Communications Center, a hub to connect field EMS units with area hospitals, to temporary lose that ability.

“We had our medical consult channels back up and on-line quickly,” Bennett added.

At no point was 911 service interrupted and the communications center processed and dispatched calls as per protocol, Bennett said.

“At various times throughout the day we had reports of stranded vehicles and property damage accidents, but no serious injuries or incidents were reported,” Todd Bowman, public information officer for Allegany County Department of Emergency Services said.

We will continue to work with local municipalities, county departments and other agencies through the coming days to ensure our service delivery remains seamless, Bowman said.

Allegany County Emergency Services has provided an update on the Warrior Tower- which is dealing with a downed microwave. The tower will not be in used until repairs can be made

Also forgot to point out that not all FIRST towers have redundant backhaul connections, typically because of lack of fiber optic backbone runs nearby. Warrior Mtn is pretty remote.
