Your 436 can receive P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 out of the box - no upgrade necessary. That radio is not specifically designed to receive digital simulcast, and they generally perform poorly when used to monitor such systems, including "garbling" clear speech. "Garble" means unintelligible speech: you can tell it is speech, but cannot understand it because of degraded reception and / or poor decoding. No scanner can decode encrypted channels, and no upgrade can change that. If you were somehow enabled an encrypted TG / channel, you would be hearing digital noise / hash, and it would not resemble human speech. I'm hoping you did not purchase the DMR upgrade to try to monitor P25 or encrypted channels.

It appears that Site 1.28 is now showing up as a neighbor to both 1.18 and 1.15 (Quirauk and Bridgeport ASRs). referencing CAPRAD, it also appears that this new site (1.28) is listed as Tower Road in Frederick County with a CC of 772.36875. It is not showing up and online however when scanning out that way. I'm in Manchester, MD (NE Carroll Co.) Can anyone else corroborate ?

There are two ASR sites in progress out that way: Tower Road in Frederick County, and Cherrytown (Chicken) in Carroll County. The frequency you mention is coordinated for Tower Road. I'm not sure what radio you have, but the site has to be explicitly programmed into the radio to be received. Those sites are not in the RRDB yet because nobody has verified that the sites are on the air and submitted the data. I'd also expect the Crisfield ASR to be on the air by now.

Yes, that is my understanding according to data, I've seen. So, I guess Tower Road will be coming online with their CC very soon, since it shows up as a neighbor to the sites I mentioned in DSD+. Thanks for the reply.

I noticed in the RRDB about TG 7527 NRP Fair Hill Admin. AFAIK, NRP does not have TGs for individual parks / NRMAs. Is this for some kind of area office? Could the be a DNR Ranger TG vs. NRP? What unit numbers are in use?

I caught this on TG 7527...

RID 2137738 "Marsteller to Wasega on Fair Hill Admin Channel"
RID 2137505 "Yeah"
RID 2137738 "Cooper Bridge is starting to fill up.. Um, I'm down here.. We're good right now, I'm just helping to set up another line and hoping that'll hold us over for a while"
RID 2137505 "10-4 Let me know if you need me to head to North Appleton"
"Ok, I just kicked a guy out with a box of rockets.."
"Like model rockets.."
"The rocket man flipped me off as he left so I think I win today.."
RID 2137738 "OMG LOL"
RID 2137505 "I was really hoping his like 4 yr old daugher would do it too, but she didn't.."
RID 2137738 "I wish you would have gotten a photo, That would've been the new meme for the office"

It went on and on.. Had me laughing with them..
RID 2137505 has also been ID'd as Parks 633 previously...
Was quite interesting and entertaining conversation, went on and on throughout the day as they were working the area.. I'd say they were Park Rangers.. IDK..

Yea, a conversation like you just described would not happen on a NRP channel - they are more formal. Must be rangers.

Hmm perhaps none of this is in the Baltimore Simulcast although Baltimore City and Baltimore County both use their own TRS patched into the EMRC system. I was hoping to be able to at least here SYSCOM to MSP or Helimed

Yeah, it'll vary by region, some are on their local TRS's as you've noted.. Might hear more MIEMSS on First if the Harford or Cecil site is within earshot..

Come to think about it, do you hear any fire / EMS traffic for any county on the Baltimore FIRST simulcast? I listen at times to MSP and SHA Chart vehicles and various police and other user, but in monitor mode, I don't recall hearing any fire activity for the Baltimore site. I only got my G5 about 10 days ago so I am only starting to listen to FIRST sporadically.

As not a Premium Subscriber and utilizing SDR Trunk I have been slowly adding the Talkgroups in.

I have not really heard any fire/EMS traffic or even any of the Maryland Tac Channels being used which strikes me odd being the Baltimore field hospital being used during COVID.

I am closer to Towson which is why I also utilize Towson ASR sometimes.

Cecil is a primary user on FIRST, thus they use the MIEMSS TGs on the FIRST system - or the MIEMSS 460 UHF radios if equipped. Other jurisdictions use either their own TRS or the MIEMSS 460 UHF radios. FWIW, earlier today an AACo MU was having issues contacting / consulting a hospital with their MIEMSS 460 radio - not sure what the exact issue was, but they asked dispatch to advise the hospital for them.

If you try the UHF MED Ch's you'll hear Baltimore related calls, I can from Southern Lancaster Co PA..
I think MED 8 has the most traffic from where I can pick things up..

Unlikely to hear any EMS or fire activity while monitoring the Baltimore or Towson FIRST sites, unless an Eastern Shore medical unit is transporting to Shock Trauma or Hopkins - and they are more likely to go by air. Baltimore County / City are surrounded by counties that have their own systems. You *might* hear Kent County - I think they peer with the Baltimore site.

Cecil, Queen Anne, Talbot, Kent, Caroline, & Dorchester Talkgroups (Law, Fire, DPW, etc.) are all denied on the Baltimore Site. The MD Aviation Tac channels all can operate on the Baltimore Site though.

I have noticed a few times in the past couple weeks, Anne Arundel & Annapolis Med units using the FiRST Med Channels to communicate with hospitals.

Garrett Central dispatch just told all Sheriff Office Personnel to switch their radios over to GCSO Main 700 (12621). Previously they were all operating on Sheriff Tac 1. Hopefully getting close to the switch over! Garrett Fire/EMS is still only dispatching over analog, most units are responding on Fire Tac 1 (12602). Some are still using the analog GC OPs channels for some incidents, or they are told to switch from Fire Tac 1 to an OPs channel.
