I would wait until the CCSO gets online so that way you will have more consistent radio chatter. CCFD transmissions are in bunches with a lot of dead time in between, so you'd only be seeing the control frequency most of the time.

I meant someone that lives there and can setup a scanner to monitor/log. In that case, no need to sit and wait...just let it run and capture it when there's something going on. But, yeah, it would have to be done when the others go online as well. I also didn't mean this week, just over the next while.

I spent months on weekends logging the TACN Sites in West Tennessee and Western Middle Tennessee. I also did alot of the Henery County 5 Site DMR System. I have the tools to work with I have 536's and 996p2's mini PC's running PROSCAN that I can remote into through the Internet. Gleason should have the Carroll County Traffic on it and I can receive it from my home when I get a baseline to start with.
Yes, we are hitting Gleason and Leach towers. I just looked on the FCC site and didn't see any new callsigns or frequencies for CC. I guess this falls under TACN's FCC license and TACN just grants talk groups within their frequencies?

The Huntingdon tower has been up since Friday afternoon, 8-7-26. It is an 800 mhz tower where the Leach tower is 700 mhz. I found the license on the FCC site. It was issued in April. The new frequencies are listed in RR, but SDRTrunk didn't pull any talkgroups from the database. I imported the frequencies to SDRTrunk and have been hearing CCSO, CCFD, West TN THP, and a bunch more stuff including WTPUD, CC Electric, etc. There's a lot of encrypted stuff on THP that is obviously muted, but I do hear them go in and out of service and occassionally get dispatched to stuff. I figure a lot of their communications are done on their laptops/tablets instead of over the air.
CC Electric was in the UHF band when it first went digital years ago. I don't know if they are using the same system gated into TACN or if they have purchased 700/800 mhz radios. I will have to look into that when I get some spare time. TACN makes sense for them since many of the electric utility companies help each other out after storms. Our bunch has been all over the state and vice versa. We've even gone to other states, and if you remember the big '94 ice storm, electric companies came from multiple states to help us.
I don't understand SDRTrunk all that well, but I'm slowly building a list of talkgroups. I have to sit and watch the display when they are keyed up and copy down the number. I hope I can eventually manually enter them and be able to mute the stuff I don't want to hear. Right now, I hear pretty much everything in West TN that has some tie to Carroll County and isn't encrypted.
The system in Carroll County is a hodgpodge right now, with TACN, DMR, and VHF gated all gated and functioning on CCFD. The Kenwood/TACN combo has a really high gain and distorts the snot out of the VHF gateway and the DMR side a little bit as well. I hold my mic at near arm's length and don't talk straight into it, lol. The transmissions come in clear on other Kenwood/TACN radios, so I doubt they will turn down the mic gain with the programming software or fool with it on the gateways. I don't know if CCSO has swapped radios out or not. The UHF analog gateway is back up on CCSO, but it has lots of distortion from dispatch. Most of the deputies are fairly clear over it, but sometimes it goes haywire and I get nothing but noise.
McKenzie FD/PD have not started changing over, afik. I have no clue when they will.
Huntingdon FD/PD has started changing over. There is still a mix of DMR/TACN in use, gated together for now. I don't know what will become of the UHF analog system. It is still gated in the county's 911 dispatch center. A page came through this morning and gated to HFD's UHF analog frequency. However, when radio service was doing some separate radio checks, it was not coming through on UHF. The HPD UHF gateway has been down for months and is still down.

Thanks for the update. When you say gated are you meaning patched? Or is gated a term meaning something else I'm just not familiar with?
It's most likely using a gateway to link directly.
Makes sense now. I wasn't thinking in terms of that.

CC Elec moved completely over to TACN 1-2 years ago as well as West TN PUD. CC Elec's UHF DMR was taken off the air.
I looked CC Electric's FCC license up and it only shows 451.275 / 456.275. So they probably could have kept their old radios if they chose to. TACN has lots of VHF and UHF systems tied in. Our FD Tait DMR can supposedly do P25, and our new Kenwoods can do NXDN, P25 and DMR with software/firmware changes.
BTW CC Electric's talkgroup is 49704
In SDRTrunk you can login to RadioReference and download the known TACN database entries, including talkgroups. No need to manually enter all of them, just the ones that might be missing from the DB. If you have the know TGIDs downloaded, it's fairly easy to see the unidentified. If you're willing, DSD+ can monitor a trunking site and keeps a record (CSV/TXT) file of the site information as well as the talkgroups seen. However, DSD+ is a little more difficult to setup and run.
RR only has three entries of about 15 or so that I've identified.
When confirmed, submit them to the database as that's how the database gets corrected/enhanced. You may know this but still.
I'm up to 21 that I've seen scroll onto the screen that I've associated a talkgroup number with. Seven are encrypted.
I know WTPUD is on it as well, but they seldom use their radios and I'm never in front of the computer when they talk. I heard them yesterday, but it is not logged. I have my computer set up to reboot and restart SDRTrunk every night at 0300 to eliminate potential memory leak issues, which haven't happened yet, but I have had continuous USB data overload issues if I leave it up and running for more than a day. I'm running it on an old Lenovo i5-4570T, tiny form factor, which was cheaper than a Raspberry Pi on eBay at the time. It's obsolete and I can't update the USB drivers beyond what's already on it, so I run into an issue of SDRTrunk killing off one of the RTL-SDR's every now and then if I leave it up and running 24-7. I've cut down the bandwidth of the dongles and I have one plugged in a rear slot and the other a front slot, but still have the issue if I don't reboot every now and then.

My local PD almost never talks anymore, leading me to think they are mostly using cell phones.
THP talks all the time. I have their priority set at 99, yet their transmissions cut in over my local top priority aliases when they are already talking. I'm not sure why that is happening. I don't want to mute them because they have something interesting going on quite often, but I may have to.

Ok, other than some TAC channels, I've probably seen about as many talkgroups as I'm going to see without having someone traveling to Carroll County from somewhere else in the state key up while they are here. I'm still missing WTPUD's number. They never talk when I'm around the computer and THP uses up the 2000 event limit up on SDRTrunk pretty fast. I know WTPUD is active on it sometimes. I broadcast the audio on a low power FM transmitter so I can listen to it anywhere in the house or yard and I have heard them. The name and group are just how I have them listed on my aliases, though I do have some of them written out for you instead of the abbreviations I use.

I just heard WTPUD. Turns out they are 49701. I talked to one of the guys and he said they were getting radios installed the other day, so what I heard was them testing the installs. Looks like I can't edit the post, so if anyone copies it, change #22 to WTPUD and delete #25.

The TN Guard has been using TACN in West Tn for over 2 years. Every Wednesday Weekly Radio Test Statewide.
