Eastern Air 767 is going from McGuire to Alpena, I assume McGuire tankers will be based up there for a couple weeks.

Northern Strike 25-2, August 2-16. Activity from Selfridge and Battle Creek to K.I. Sawyer and all points in between.
Volk Field WI will be having their exercise NORTHERN LIGHTNING, now called SENTRY NORTH also at the same time. Aug 5th thru Aug 16th. How many times are they going to change the name of this exercise?

Supposedly they renamed it to align with Sentry Aloha and Sentry Savannah…. Also HMLA-775 will be taking part in Northern Strike. 4 AH-1Z and 4 UH-1Y are on their way in from Kansas City, originating from Camp Pendleton.

Hey everyone! I do mostly public safety scanning, but I have a KrakenSDR (5 x RTL-SDRs) and I wanted to try out RTL-airband (GitHub - rtl-airband/RTLSDR-Airband: Multichannel AM/NFM demodulator).

I'm in West Michigan and I want to plug in some frequencies for the Northern Strike training. Ill go through the database and this threads history, but I was wondering if people had key frequencies I should keep and eye on? I'll have 5 different tuners (SDRs) with 2.4MHz of bandwidth each, so I can handle numerous channels across multiple bands.

My antenna will be a 380mhz whip that's like ~3 ft long, and other VHF whips.

Encrypted comms on 143.4250 as they passed over OH; usually that’s their onboard security forces personnel.
That's cool. That freq is going into the radio. He passed pretty close to me, but it was too hazy. I couldn't see him. Thanks.

I’d try of these UHF for starters Mid Air Operations - The RadioReference Wiki

If you go up one level in the Wiki as well, you can see ops frequencies for the different local wings that might be participating as well.

They usually go to the PIKE MOA, but they also use Grayling Range R-4201, & STEELHEAD MOA. You might hear them mention LUMBERJACK, FIREBIRD, GARLAND, MOLSON, It's all part of the Alpena Complex.

Try these AR freqs (Air Refuelling)
274.450 AR-220 & AR-218 Prime starts middle PA to Toledo. This is the most active freq. Usually can hear it around 11am till 12pm. Then again around 8 or 9pm during the week.

341.750 sometimes used as an AR- freq, but also used as an A/A (Air 2 Air) by passing B-1's & B-2's.

BLACK TALON, STEELHEAD MOA & PIKE EAST & WEST, are part of the Alpena CRTC Complex (Combat Readiness Training Complex). BLACK TALON is the call sign for the Alpena CRTC controllers. They give permission to enter the MOA's & give Airspace briefs to the aircraft entering the MOA's.
They have a building at the Phelps Collins Airport in Alpena. They control the STEELHEAD & PIKE EAST & WEST MOA'S (Military Operating Area). They're also in charge of the LUMBERJACK, FIREBIRD, & MOLSON, ATCAA's. The ranges basically cover the Thumb area up past Alpena & out into Lake Huron.
Grayling Range R-4201 is an Air to Ground gunnery & bombing range for military aircraft. It's east of the Waters exit off I-75. They go by the call sign STEELGATE. They also have an artillery range nearby that's used by the Army. Sometimes you'll hear aircraft say ARTY Hot or ARTY Cold. Just means artillery is active (Hot) or not active (Cold).
The A-10's use many different callsign's. STING, BUZZ, BUCKI, ROCKT are Toledo F-16 call signs. MUDDY 41 is used for CAP (Combat Air Patrol).
HUNTRESS is the call sign for the controllers at NORAD. You'll usually hear Combat Air Patrol aircraft or E-3 AWACS & Coast Guard helos talking to HUNTRESS.
