The proximity to Luke and even Davis-Monthan would seem to negate that necessity... but then again, the gub'mint does like to spend our money with reckless abandon.
CBKNEWS on twitter is a UFO site and made claims to have had photos from Alaska too. Truly doubt the one from Alaska, with a space alien (apparently) waiting for AAA tow after the crash or those posted above from Michigan are real.
The fighters do not land to refuel - they refuel while airborne to maintain the CAP

It matches the description of the AK one. But what the heck is it? I doubt they are authentic photos. If they are, then that there is a tic-tak UFO.

11175.0 SORORITY, E-6B AMBAY 67 (163918) just NW of me & on WBFM digital
247.750 WBFM at 1752 UTC. He was working ground station PATHOLOGY. No
EAMs heard from 163918, but he did request a move to CHARLIE ECHO
(9031.0) then to CHARLIE FOXTROT (4703.0) & finally to 11264.4
(Designator not heard...CHARLIE HOTEL, maybe?). I heard both stations on
all frequencies except 4703.0. Once on 11264.4 both were loud & clear.
SORORITY now attempting HF Secure mode with PATHOLOGY, but has to
troubleshoot transmit problems first. 1821 UTC

Turns out it was the Minnesota 148th but working out of Madison Wisconsin.

Guess for the Def Sec E-4B to Europe.. Always seem to get at least one Pittsburgh KC-135 on these.
