Just got back to the hotel in VA Beach. Had the SDR running all day. Much to go through and verify.

Currently I have been listening to ROUNDTOP working SEASEC (? not sure of name) Ron's list shows ROUNDTOP as USS Gettysburg CG64. Many comms and trying message data bursts.

FREEDOM CROSSROADS wkg FREEDOM TOWER
RED HAWK 722 (AE2BD3 167848 MH60S Seahawk) working FREEDOM CROSSROADS with souls on board. FREEDOM CROSSROADS tells RED HAWK 722 his ETR to FATHER is 30 mikes. Coordinates given but not going to post here.

We visually saw RED HAWK 722 head out and pass by one of the destroyers heading out to the carrier.

657 PM EDT 361.125 COURAGE 611 and DRAGON 40 A-A a couple helos going to do some live round firing. They called Giant Killer on 361.3 to coordinate the area. Were concerned about the number of merchant vessels in area B. One guy looking to fire 600 rounds. They may wait until area C is done then move there.

Could be SESEF working with ROUNDTOP. I’m usually just out of range of their HF groundwave, but I might have to start listening in again.
Did you happen to catch COURAGE 610 at Fort Story doing touch & goes in the field there?

I may have, I have to review the tons of freqs captured today. Do you know what freq they use at Fort Story? That may help me see if I caught him. We did see HURRICANE 04 buzz the beach, CH-53 Super Stallion. So cool! Thanks for the SESEF info. That may be it. It was hard to understand what they were saying. I don't know the terms for all this Navy stuff.

Sounds like SESEF, they talk on 274.8 mostly, but I've heard them on other freqs. They test various electronic systems, often testing Crypto and havequick, sometimes sending Mickeys (Havequick TOD). Sorry hrspotter, posted before I saw your reply.

Thank you as well. Sounds like SESEF was it! I knew you guys could come through. What you said is exactly what I heard. They were sending data bursts (Mickeys) and talking on 300.125 (Havequick TOD) and I also logged them on 274.8 ROUNDTOP working SESEF. Thank you for the ID's of these freqs and the SESEF. Much appreciated.

Still sorting freqs the SDR snagged. I may post some of the unknowns (to me) later on for some help.

There's been a ton of tankers from MacDill flying over NYC and heading to...Maine I believe if anyone else hasn't noticed. I've seen like 3 or 4 on ADSB so far and it seems there's more taking off. Redeploying to be spared from the hurricane?
Moody won’t be far behind. I’m sure Tyndall has already began as well.

The ones I heard were using the callsign DREW. MCF Hurricane Evac Flights as of 1740 EDT.
Sure sent those MacDill KC-135's out of the zone to Maine..Guess will be safe up there :)

WARLOK-1 NP-3C from VXS-1 Pax River just back from there. Maybe dropped some wx buoys off
in the Big Bend area of Florida..

Last November they used 328.375 for the field, though that was a special exercise. Not sure if the HSC sqns have any presets for this sort of thing. FWIW the IFG from one of the minesweeping (MH-53) squadrons doesn't show anything for Little Creek or Ft. Story. This time of year some of the units near Dam Neck like to do their helo training, so that may be relevant to the activity there. For multiple Norfolk helos at the same time, 239.45 and 290.6 are East and West helo common on the IFG.

2046L - COURAGE 21 conducted final T&G at Fort Story LZ. Probably pissing off the campers at the state park - 200 ft at 70ish knots.

Can you share the IFG for the HM, please? Would love to have a look at it. Have a few of their preset cards, but more details would be great.

Sorry, no comms logged on 378.375 or 290.6

I did log 239.45 Heard RED HAWK 722 say whiskey bravo 500' beach cruise (?). Another unidentified callsign saying alpha whiskey fifty Northbound to concrete sweeps (?) 500'.

Hope this helps, appreciate your info. Thanks!

After spending much time going through 65 freqs recorded from the SDR from just about 8 hours of logging at Virginia Beach, here's a list of freqs I could use some help identifying. I added some part of the comms or who I'm pretty sure was talking. Thanks for the help in advance! MUCH appreciated!

227.200 Possible Langley birds A-A
227.850 STRIKE 604 checking in, 310 for 97. (Pax River??)
264.775 Two planes A-A sounded like F18 type comms, no ID.
268.625 Sounded like A-A comms from a few different planes calling out direction, altitude, etc. Also a MARSHALL 604 check in.
277.800 ZERO KILO JULIET (0KJ) calling SIX INDIA DELTA (6ID) multiple times. Also called ZULU TWO PAPA (Z2P) a few times. Strong signal.
278.375 FREEDOM CROSSROADS working FREEDOM TOWER and RED HAWK
279.125 F18s from Oceana A-A (after buzzing the hotel on the way out to the warning areas)
281.675 F18s from Oceana A-A (after buzzing the hotel on the way out to the warning areas)
298.800 F18s from Oceana A-A (after buzzing the hotel on the way out to the warning areas)
312.175 "Base, jam this is Jason Comm" (again, only what I think he said)
320.650 Langley birds A-A? Mentioned runway 8 and conditions.
336.800 Mostly secure noise, some tones, and voice, "word, (?) this is Justin Hall (sounded like), over."
354.800 Sounded like "50 miles SW of Elizabeth". No ID
361.125 Helo A-A DRAGON and COURAGE
363.325 F18s from Oceana A-A (after buzzing the hotel on the way out to the warning areas)
376.875 sounded like F18s and some refueling talk. Maybe 18 to 18 refuel?

It's gotta be SESEF

Shipboard Electronic Systems Evaluation Facility

They do all the RF/EW/Comms systems & comms testing for USN vessels.
