"I think it is interesting how many of the comments on the WTMJ page are corrections to factual errors in either the reporting or the Chief's memo.
I would have expected the (so called) 'news' to do enough research to find the Chief's errors, and there is absolutely no reason for their own." i know, atleast 75% of their job is research

a few things i have notice since they switched over was the county trs seems to be more clear and more possible to pick up here in waukesha and there is alot more chatter on the old uhf side channels along with more chatter on the "vice" frequency (especially lastnite). lasy night i was scanning the uhf frequencies at it seemed district 3 was as active as before the switch, can anyone else confirm this?

fox 6 news mentioned opensky again on the 11 o'clock news. said they are in the middle of a seven day test period. is it just the milwaukee county residents paying for this "system" or is it a statewide or even nation lose. im not a mke resident therefore cannot represent them, but i wouldnt too upset if they dump this system before 2 billion dollars (new york) is spent on it with out a positive outcome. 2 billion has so much more potential, me being unemployed this waste infuriates me, a number of potential dangers or disasters cause be this "system" infuriates me.

Did they say anything new? (I am guessing not)

Like most system, I am sure it is local funds and grants. So yes, state and federal funds. (Not sure what the point is)

im not a mke resident therefore cannot represent them, but i wouldnt too upset if they dump this system before 2 billion dollars (new york) is spent on it with out a positive outcome.
And the misinformation continues.
NY did not spend $2B. That was the final contract cost. They decided to stop implementation early in the testing.
Many attribute this to issues other than the system. (But hat does not fit your "theme")

2 billion has so much more potential, me being unemployed this waste infuriates me, a number of potential dangers or disasters cause be this "system" infuriates me.
I don't know what this has to do with your unemployment.

The Milwaukee OPEN-SKY, System was totaly funded through a grant from the
FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANGEMENT AGENCY and did not involve local Funding.

Police Cheif statement

In regard, to Milwaukee Police Cheif statement that that all law enforcement agencies must in the furture be all digital.. It is true that the FCC new rule going from 25 to 12.5 Kilihertz bandwidth does not require going to all digital, and allows Analog to continue. However in lowering the bandwidth requirement will
lower the effective range of analog FM transmissions, which would require agencies to add more equipment to make-up for less coverage.. With digital and using data compression techniques Digital transmissions will not have this shortcoming. I believe the FCC wnts Law Enforcement to standerdize, being all digital.since it represents the future.

Which IS P25!!!!!!!!!
NOT CLOUDY-SKY!!!!
Cloudy-Sky is NOT a standard digital format. P25 is!!!
Get that through your Cloudy-Head Tencom!!!!!!!!!!!!
Open-Sky DOES NOT WORK FOR PUBLIC SAFETY!!!!

Who says that digital is the future?
The only true interopability is analog.
Once again that is ANALOG!!!!!!!
Get a clue Tencom or Gencom=General Communications.

Time to turn down the emotion, and turn up the facts.

Which IS P25!!!!!!!!!
True

NOT CLOUDY-SKY!!!!
True,However;
OpenSky subscriber equipment does have P25 modes, so while the 'system" is not interoperable, the subscriber equipment is.

Cloudy-Sky is NOT a standard digital format. P25 is!!!
True

Get that through your Cloudy-Head Tencom!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am quite sure he understands.

Open-Sky DOES NOT WORK FOR PUBLIC SAFETY!!!!
Your opinion (Shared by others, but still OPINION)

Who says that digital is the future?
Most everyone who have observed the development of technology over the last 40 years, but yes, could also be called opinion (with lots of historical support)

The only true interopability is analog.
False. The only true interoperability is a "PLAN". Technology can only assist or hinder.

Once again that is ANALOG!!!!!!!
And once again, you are WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry, just had to)

Get a clue Tencom or Gencom=General Communications.
Good advice for all (Including yourself)

What are the major disadvantages of using OpenSky? (Other then that the public can't listen.)

Are there some serious issues with OpenSky that are notable?

Thanks

I think that someone should post an update to the Milwaukee city page to refelct that MPD is no longer using the UHF system to dispatch. I'm pretty sure they are not going back, even with all the problems...
