• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If the tech knows how to program a Motorola subscriber to NAS, then the answer is no, the system operator would not know the radio is is listening.

However, if the tech screwed up and did not program the subscriber correctly, and the radio attempted to register and affiliate, then yes, they would know there is an unauthorized radio.
But what if it was programmed using a valid existing radio ID?

What do you mean what if it had its original valid ID? Then it would likely register but then either that ID will be allowed to affiliate to the talkgroup or not.

I don't know why a tech would program a legitimate subscriber for NAS, that's a horrible idea for a legitimate user and makes no sense. There is already an option for disabling its ability to make a call on the talkgroup with TG/AG Disabled but still allowed to affiliate to a talkgroup for monitoring purposes. That is the legitimate way Motorola allows for such a situation with a legitimate radio. Then, there is a lot of FD guys here have a unication pager, they can receive their page and then flip to the trunked system to monitor until they get to their station. It only works well because the system is simulcast with 1 site so it there is no other roaming and missing transmissions

With the availability of cheap XTS radios, my signature is no joke. I thought the systems around me wouldn't be such a hot target. But every once in a while logging, it will come up - REFUSED UNIT REGISTRATION - UNIT ID: 1. Link Layer Authentication can't come soon enough when they start stealing legitimate IDs

But we're talking about a hack here, not a real tech programming an authorized radio. I mean cloning an authorized user's radio ID to avoid being detected as an unauthorized radio. Anyone programming in radio ID 1 is asking for trouble (and this is a frequent joke on here). And XTSs don't do Phase 2.
