• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello all, I recently got a Motorola XTS2500 and the correct programming cable. I got the ASTRO 25 software and got it to read the radio and am able to change some settings, specifically only radio buttons and knobs as well as certain conventional information. I am not able to change any trunking information, which is the reason I got the radio (to use as a non-affiliate scanner). It is a 7/800 and currently has a trunking system programmed in, but I am unable to change any settings in that system as well as unable to add another system to override. It also appears that I can change essentially nothing on the radio. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. If this tidbit of info will help I got it from Haloid Radios and believe I got a good deal on it, but that may not be the case.

Send the radio back for a refund. The radio can only be legally used as a wheel chalk, door stop, or a paper weight.

That's wheel CHOCK. Chock and chalk are two different things. Word lesson of the day completed. Now you are smarter. You're welcome.
You are absolutely correct. However, I really didn't learn anything you said because I know what the proper word was to use in that context. For some unknown reason, I didn't use the proper word, and I don't know why or have any BS excuse, and I take full responsibility for the action of my fingers tapping the incorrect keys on the keyboard. Thanks for pointing out another second mistake I have made in my life. In the meantime, I will work on a BS excuse for the next time I make another second mistake.

Now, back to the regular scheduled program.

Posts like the above are all I need to print out and show my bosses when they ask me if our Genwatch costs are worth the investment. Worth. Every. Penny.
The fact you are stuck at this point in the programming process is exactly why you should NOT be programming a subscriber type radio for NAS. Sell the XTS and buy a scanner or unication pager or SDR setup before you cause issues on the system you wish to monitor.

What he said. I justify our GenWatch updates and maintenance just browsing these forums full of incompetent amateurs attempting to illicitly program subscribers without authorization on our system. It also is job security even Elon Musk would approve. "Name five things you did last week"- I inhibited 5 unauthorized radios.

No, you stopped 5 unauthorized devices from accessing local government computer systems. Got to put it in to 2025 hacking terms to make it sound more relevant.

Maybe that's why our offices keep getting thrown in under IT…
