New member here. The name's Eric. I'm not really much of a radio guy, nor am I into HAM. I live in Polk County, and I joined here in order to open a feed for our county central dispatch. I work at the Green Creek Fire Department here in the county, and we're providing the feed with department equipment. We're a rural county, so don't expect a whole lot of wall to wall action if you listen in lol. As for equipment, we use everything from Kenwood portables, Kenwood and Motorola mobiles, a couple of kenwood bases, and a whole slew of Motorola minitor pagers.

P.S. Since we just got the feed up and running today, we're still working on improving the quality.

Welcome Greg! Nice to have you!
Can you give me a link to your feed? (Edit: I found it from your badge)
Also, thanks for your service to the fire department!
Hope you quickly "meet the family," because I think
that's what most people would agree the members of this site are!

Now monitoring with my new Uniden 996XT

Wanted to add a little more to my initial introduction post above, especially after getting my feet wet with a new 996XT (more like getting soaked trying to drink from a fire hose)....

Delighted to be using the 996XT to be monitoring NC VIPER. And slowly climbing the 996XT and trunking programming learning hill..

Have downloaded and installed FreeSCAN and getting ready to clear the memory and download Marshal's XTFreescanCentralNC8202010.996 file into the 996XT..

Spent some time looking at the data in the above file using FreeSCAN.

After the first evening with my jaw dropping and eye's wide in a glaze crawling through the 996XT documentation, and this site, beginning to make a little progress in learning this new area.. In addition to the ham stuff, I've been a listener of the public safety frequencies for over 25 years.

Marshall, I hope we can twist your arm enough and with the offer of a free meal at Bullocks BBQ for you to come over some time next year to one of the DFMA Ham Club Meetings and give a little talk. Welcome to the Durham FM Association

Would be nice to meet you face to face and obviously would like to hear you give a talk about radio reference and NC Viper and what ever you feel would be the most important.

We normally meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month with Dinner at 6:00pm and the meeting and program at 7:00pm at Bullocks BBQ..

regards,
Dan, KR4UB

At one time a few years ago I had a 212 in my ride. Great little 2 meter mobile until
the spring in the PTT Button had issues. But still a good little rig overall.

Hi David, welcome to NC in advance. I hope you have a digital trunking scanner. Look at the NC database and check out counties around Mebane. What county is that in?
