As far as police comms go, I'm not sure if it's still the case ever since CPD Zones went to encrypted P25. Most suburbs surrounding Chicago use Motorola APX-series radios, so it's possible they have direct access to CPD. For those that don't, like Cicero and Franklin Park (which use encrypted NXDN and DMR respectively), it's unknown.
for that to even work the radios would have to have CPD's Encryption key loaded into the radios

Correct, which is why I said it's possible for them to have access considering that most surrounding PDs have APX radios just like CPD does.

Possible only if the other towns have UHF enabled in their APX8000's not all departments are carrying multiband APX's some are just single band 6000's on Starcom. If they have UHF in the radios is that mode of encryption even available as there are multiple different algorithms. Who is going to load this key into multiple departments? Is CPD even willing to share their key... probably not.. CPD and CFD have always been an island on their own as far as interoperability. It has only recently let up under MABAS for fire CPD not so much...

Before this goes too far off the rails, I only mentioned Lincolnwood because it was the first time I heard it. Since the dispatch channels and some command and event channels are not encrypted, it'possible they had some radios programmed by the CFD radio shops, or wherever they have their radios programmed were given the code plugs. I don't think it was anything more than that, and might be something new or has been around awhile and first time it's been used. That's all to it, nothing else.

This is interesting. I know when I lived in Chicago years ago, on the police side, the north suburbs did have CPD radios in their dispatch centers and once in a while they would come up on the CPD zone channel. This was the case with Niles, Skokie, Lincolnwood and Rosemont. I think Evanston also had this capability. Do the suburbs that border the city have a similar arrangement in place today or like in the case with Lincolnwood FD, is this something new on the fire department side?
From what i've heard, most north suburbs have 700/800 MHz radios only, so they wouldn't be able to have CPD zones, but they might have OEMC800

Since you brought up MABAS Interop, i heard CFD calling RED center for a radio check on IFERN1 this morning, I don't think i heard a reply.

I heard Lincolnwood PD jumping in to a conversation on CPD Zone 11, sounded like they indeed have access.

TGID's 7036 & 7037 (Phase 2/Site-1) heard earlier this morning with RID's 9000xxx (OEMC radio techs/shops) and 515xxxx series. Key up's and couple "voice tests" in the clear. Unknown future user(s) at this time.

Are those the same RIDs as the CTA radio techs a while back?

Yesterday Cook County Board up came up on Fire Englewood stating they had a radio left at a scene. The dispatcher responded and stated they would send someone to pick it up. I believe a battalion Chief was sent to pick it up. Dispatcher told the battalion Chief the radio belonged to 466 who ever that is.
