There's a guy in Birmingham that has a pro 2006...for 40....hmmmm

77.5 miles from Boaz to Birmingham (Google Maps).
77.5 miles from Birmingham to Boaz.
155 miles round trip.

2006 = $40
2055 = $70
Difference = $30

If you can get there, and back, for 19 cents a mile, then it is a breakeven situation, except that the 2006 still won't do trunking...

I agree, I went ahead and got the 2055. I tested it there, borrowing the other antenna, made sure no issues, date of mfg code is 10A07, everything lights up, scans, weather sounds off, got it for 55 with no antenna. spent 14 for another antenna, then i said to heck with it, and got the pc cable for 30 more. unit also came with power supply, AND car adapter, and an astatic external speaker. I guess for right around 100 including the pc cable, not too bad.

Being in boaz, go ahead and put dekalb county in there as well. Like dekalb sheriff and there county net, ft. Payne pd, rainsville, dekalb fire and dekalb ems etc...you should be able to pick thos up as well and increase your transmissions. Also state pd, cars, and the huntsville base and jacksonville base.

whoever had this thing last has a bunch of that already in here. i need to go through and make sure all the freqs match, though, he had boaz listed as 458 instead of 453... I'll be adding a bunch of other stuff too later on, i just figure if i get boaz 1st, i'll know for sure how well it works or doesn't...I am right near the hospital, too, not sure why i'm not picking any of that up yet...

really stupid question, but these are all FM freqs, right? I just noticed the "receive mode", some he has listed as FM, CT, AM....that might be part of the problem

Yeah, they're all FM. If the scanner is set on AM, they'll sound distorted or the scanner won't stop at all, and if there's a CT tone programmed in there, it won't open the squelch unless the programmed tone matches the one used by the agency's repeater.

Edit: almost always the only time you'll want to use AM is for Airplane traffic, they still use AM so a stronger station can't completely shut out a weaker one (FM capture effect).

you dont NEED the CTs, but they help if the scanner is picking up interference that opens the squelch when the channel isn't in use. They also help with eliminating the loud PSH sound when someone stops transmitting. Several scanners with CT capability have the ability to automatically determine the tone themselves.

Some of the freqs are the same, (same freqs. Used by different agencies) the only thing that separates them to your scanners "ears" are the control tones...so yes u can, but u don't have too, but you may have overlap or not know which department is talking if it is a shared freq. So yes and no...but i would on the ones that share frequencies.
