New Fire TG on Morris County MIRS...

New wildcard popped today...TG 34320...New Vernon FD Engine-3 (RID 55652) calling County. County responded as well (new RID 60185 never seen before, but the 601XX series RIDS have been associated with the 911 EMERG TG 16). Any ideas?

That is not a MIRS talkgroup, but another one of the fire response talkgroups, Fire Response 5. The 6xxxx ids are dispatch positions.

Maybe I should have been a little more specific...When I refer to MIRS, I'm actually referring to the Morris Interoperable Radio System (Motorola UHF trunked analog/digital system) not the MIRS-1 talkgroup.

I'm aware that all of the dispatch positions are 6 series. I actually have over 1200 LIDS alpha-tagged on the system. What I was saying was the 601xx series RIDs have only been associated with TG 16 in the past, which is the 911 EMERG talkgroup (emergency button on radio). I've never seen a deviation from this (see below).

Is there now an active FIRE RESP 5 talkgroup using DEC 34320 and have agencies switched to it? If so, which ones?

Sorry to be pedantic, but the proper name of this system has been discussed many times before - it is NOT called MIRS. It is simply the 'Morris County Trunked Radio System'.

MIRS is the name for the interoperability radio communications plan put into effect by the county when they built the system, not the name of the entire system itself.

Time for me to step up on my soapbox....

Since the system was developed and maintained by Morris County OEM, a quick visit to their website shows the following...Click on the link below then click on "MIRS Information Pamphlet." On the cover sheet it specifically says...M.I.R.S....Morris Interoperable Radio System...that is where the acronym MIRS came from. Morris County NJ USA - Office of Emergency Management

I guess if MIRS was the "plan", they would call it MIRP.

Now I'm really confused as to what to believe - I have an acquaintance that works for the county & is directly involved with the day-to-day operations of the system.

I usually take anything else I hear about the system that didn't come from him as blasphemy...

You can call it whatever you want. It was originally designed as a system to be shared between all county agencies for interoperability between county agencies only.

It morphed around 2005/2006 to have all towns have radios on the system for interoperability only.

Then towns dispatched by the county started migrating over to get off the aging low band systems.

So you can see how the name could have changed, depending on "when" you named it. Either name is correct.

I have one last question - the naming of the FD & EMS talkgroups. Are they now referred to as 'Fire Response' & 'EMS Response', instead of 'Municipal FD' & 'Municipal EMS'?

I just want to make sure the database is reflecting the proper naming if they did change...

What are you guys usng for your Muti-Site High/Low threshold when monitoring the system? I had mine at 88/95 and I found it's holding a site just a little too long when a better one is available. Just bumped it to 90/95 to give it a try on Monday on my commute.

Sorry, I don't own any GRE equipment. I monitor the system with an HP-1, a 396XT, or my APX (mostly the APX, as there's nothing better than genuine RSSI to handle a multi-site system like this).

Actually KDD904 is correct. It is the Morris County New Jersey UHF Trunked Radio System.

MIRS are the interop talkgroups on the system. There are many talkgroups that are not interop.

I submitted this to the database admin back on 12/3 but it was rejected. Maybe rightfully so, I'm not sure.

That was me - you submitted the RID's, but not the talkgroup (34320). Memebers are free to log RID's in the Wiki for the system themselves (we do not add those to the database).
