Great overview of simulcast systems!
I was really surprised when I first found this stuff in RRDB!

Do you have a tip for recognizing Simulcast?
thanks good instructionsIf the site itself as listed in the RR database doesn't contain the word "simulcast", click on the site's link & examine the map for a cluster of sites, it'll look similar to what's illustrated below (a simulcast system near me) To double-check & make absolutely sure. click the FCC callsign link(s) and examine the assigned frequencies (column 2) as relative to each site location (column 1), they should be identical. Look at the first frequency of Location #1, it should match the first frequency of locations #2, #3, etc. Same with all other listed frequencies, they should all be the same at each location

thanks for another good instruction. And in addition to what @Whiskey3JMC said, if the site is not in the database but you know the FCC call sign, you can look up the license on the FCC site and then look at Locations tab. If its simulcast, each Fixed location will have the same freqs. Just click one, note the freqs, the click another location.

And so on and so fourth.
You were listening to us on our private talkgroup (350).I just have to ask about something i heard on the scanner Last night. The feed i listen to has only broad casted FD, PD, and Ems they were all somewhat busy because of the weather (high winds) I didn't hear any unit numbers or departments but in between transmissions someone was giving another person directions on how to fold a sheet of paper not sure what the paper was, but it was specific and i couldn't have understood the instructions. On the last fold the person giving instructions said you have completed your task and that was it no more said about it. Does anyone know what I was hearing?
Thanks for letting me know. I heard it on a Broadcastify feed for MorgantownYou were listening to us on our private talkgroup (350).It was just a quick training for following instructions over a radio and seeing if two separate groups arrived at the same conclusion based on instructions given. Basically reinforcing confidence with radio usage. The end result was each group folded a paper airplane.
It's called "private" in the sense that only our agency should have that talkgroup programmed in our radios, but there's no encryption so it can be picked up by a scanner.
Thanks that has crossed my mind. But taking my chances with the 1040 to get started. I will ask why do scanners at least what i have looked at seem to hold their value? I see used going for close to new. Im really hesitant to by any electronic usedI'm late seeing this thread. The downside about the WS-1040 is that it only handles the P25 Phase 1 digital format, and the plans are for the WV SIRN to be converted to P25 Phase 2 at some point. The exact timing is unknown. But whenever the conversion takes place, the WS-1040 would no longer work for agencies that use SIRN.
In the last couple of years, at least with some models, supply chain issues have caused new scanners to be out of stock. Limited availability of new units tends to increase demand and prices for used ones which are available. Thanks that has crossed my mind. But taking my chances with the 1040 to get started. Thanks good advise. Im only 1 offer away from buying 1In the last couple of years, at least with some models, supply chain issues have caused new scanners to be out of stock. Limited availability of new units tends to increase demand and prices for used ones which are available.
I can tell you personally, I have purchased about four used scanners over the years, and they performed as expected. You would definitely want to check the seller's reputation and I would also avoid scanners that the sellers just verified that they would turn on but didn't actually program and use.
I have scanners made in the 1980s that still work on analog frequencies.
FYI, the Radio Shack PRO-106 and the GRE PSR-500 are older versions of the WS-1040. That design has been around awhile.
I'm sorry to hear that the software won't open. I didn't anticipate that.thanks doing that now. download is complete but my pc wont open seems to be a problem for others also. So now looking at my options watched a few whistler tutorials and thought this would be easier then i originally thought then hit this snag.
Are you using a Windows computer?thanks doing that now. download is complete but my pc wont open seems to be a problem for others also.
yesAre you using a Windows computer?
looks like Microsoft doesn't trust the download. I see where you can take out of s mode but can never go back. I don't know enough about this sort of thing to make the decision. This pc is new bought at Christmas . So not sure why Whistler is such a threatAre you using a Windows computer?
MS wont trust any app that didn't come from them. It's not whistler, anything. Take it out of "S" mode. You won't be able to program your scanner without.looks like Microsoft doesn't trust the download. I see where you can take out of s mode but can never go back.
