When you get the message about not trusting the app, I believe there is a link to read more. In that link, you will be given a choice to run anyway.

It gave me the option to report to MS that i trusted the app and that didnt work also tried as administrator that didnt work either. So my friend is going to take it out of s mode if she cant get it to open. No matter what i do in these situations i come across snags that i just dont know enough about. Usually after watching a video and thinking thats easy enough then when i try to do it everything is different on my screen that is usually the first thing. thanks for the suggestions i did want to start getting ready to program.

No scanner made for public use can decode encrypted frequencies due to Federal Law. The TRX1 is based on an older design and does not usually do simulcast well or Phase 2 P25 at all. The Uniden SDS100, introduced in 2018 is the last new scanner design, and is under the same Federal guidelines as the TRX1 but handles P25 1 & 2 due to more modern circuitry. The TRX1 does a decent job with DMR and NXDN which is included in the firmware. NXDN and DMR are each an extra cost add on for the Uniden SDS models.
Regardless of federal law, it simply isn't possible to decode digitaly encrypted signals without the corresponding keys. No federal law required. THIS ENCRYPTION QUESTION KEEPS COMING UP AND LACKS A BIT OF COMMON SENSE. If encrypted signals used by public safety could be decrypted without the required keys, why encrypt in the first place? AES-256 has never been broken, and likely won't be for quite a number of years until quantum computing or some other invention can catch up to shorten the time required. DES-56 was hacked but that took a team with resources well beyond anything reasonably obtainable. Seems there needs to be a banner on the front page of this site announcing it isn't possible.

When you download the file, a box pops up showing the file. Click on the 3 dots to the right. Open downloads page. Click on the file and click on Keep. Click on Show More. Click on Keep Anyway. A box will pop up - Do you want app to make changes to this device. Click on Yes. You will probably need to run it as administrator.

To increase security and performance, Windows 10 in S mode runs only apps from Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in Microsoft Store, you'll need to permanently switch out of S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode, but you won't be able to turn it back on.

Switching out of S mode in Windows 10:

  1. On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
  2. Find the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, then select the Go to the Store link.
Note: Don't select the link under Upgrade your edition of Windows. That's a different process that will keep you in S mode.
  3. On the page that appears in Microsoft Store (Switch out of S mode or a similar page), select the Get button. After you confirm this action, you'll be able to install apps from outside Microsoft Store.

Well i got it going. S mode was easy 1 click and i was out and ez scan opened right up. fooled around manually awhile then made a list from the library using the software, that took some time getting familiar with, and then ran into a few issues importing, its not very forgiving although my driver was highlighted you still need to click on. I had several error codes, slow internet speed, and went back and forth between using a card reader and the scanner finally got it using usb and scanner it just took patients waiting on it which was most of my problem from the start. i got all the channels i wanted and is working fine so far. Going to take a brake with it for now but will soon be looking at improving and learning the keys. Thanks for the help

You won't have to worry about simulcast in Morgantown. The only simulcast cell in WV is in Ohio County. TG 307 does include all the small municipal police departments including Westover. They just don't specifically call them Westover units. They use unit numbers and I'm not sure exactly which unit numbers correspond to Westover PD. The analog channel that is listed in the database for Westover is not used anymore. I listen to Mon, Preston, Marion, Harrison, and Taylor counties daily. I'm the one that broadcasts the feed for Mon County Fire and EMS. I used to have a feed dedicated to just Mon County police but I had to temporarily take it down so I can setup a scanner in a new location for it. If you need any help with programming that scanner, I can help you. I'm located just 20 minutes south of you in Marion County.
I had my new trx1 scanner working fine as far as I was concerned not sure what i did if anything, but some of the channels have started pounding, static, distortion , not sure what the correct term is. i can still barely hear the call in the background . have any ideas?

If you attach your configuration file, I will check it for problems. Click on Attach files and open the zipped folder.

Ok i will try to get that to you . I did pull the card and reformat and transport my library through a card reader and it has been fine since about 6pm.

I will try different positions, when i say 10 or 11 i mean in the clock position its not numbered. Is a higher number a stronger signal?
From the manual:
Preset squelch between 10 and 12 o’clock position. While scanning, turn the knob down (counterclockwise) until you hear noise then up (clockwise) a little past where the noise stops. The higher the squelch is set, the stronger the signal required to break the squelch.

You need to make this adjustment with a conventional frequency using carrier squelch. If the frequency has a tone, you will not hear the noise to set the squelch level. You want to turn the squelch counterclockwise to start. Then slowly turn it up until the noise just quiets. That will be the point of maximum sensitivity. If you continue to turn up the squelch beyond that point, you will be unable to receive transmissions with poor signal strength.

From the manual: SKYWARN®
During severe weather Skywarn® repeaters relay severe weather reports from Amateur Radio operators in the field to local National Weather Service offices. When there is no severe weather these repeaters are used for routine communications by licensed Amateur Radio operators. Monitoring Skywarn®, you will hear actual reports as they are called in. You will hear locations near you and you will hear those reports minutes before they are relayed on NWS Weather broadcasts and much sooner than on radio or TV. To import Skywarn® Frequencies: 1. Browse for Skywarn® frequencies in the EZ Scan library and import them to the Skywarn® Scanlist. If not found in the library, check with a local Amateur Radio club. Find a local one at www.arrl.org. 2. Enable the Skywarn® Scanlist. To activate Skywarn®: 1. Press once to enter Weather Mode. 2. Press again to activate Skywarn®. NOTE: Skywarn® temporarily disables all other Scanlists. Remember, local EOC offices (county sheriff or local police) are an important part of Skywarn®. Feel free to add EOC talkgroups to your Skywarn® scanlist. SKYWARN® and the SKYWARN® logo are registered trademarks of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, used with permission

I can't find where to click on attach files to open zipped folder. I'll be honest starting to wish i never would have bought this. Works great for a while then the screen starts acting different and everything is distorted and i know for sure i didn't do anything this time to change it. I really can't find the 450.00 value in this.

Look at the lower left corner of the post you are creating in the Radio Reference forum to find the Attach files button. It is not in Sentinel or your computer file explorer.
