Yes, Ethel, there is a National Forest in Puerto Rico. I'll share a little bit with you. I note that it is hard to find Puerto Rico in the database. This and the Virgin Islands should have maps we can click on in the database. It's really hard to find the path to these two U.S. Territories.

U.S. Forest Service

El Yunque National Forest

Located in Puerto Rico's Northeast Region, El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rainforest within the national forest system. It extends through eight municipalities: Río Grande, Luquillo, Canóvanas, Fajardo, Naguabo, Ceiba, Las Piedras and Juncos. At nearly 29,000 acres, it is one of the smallest in size, yet one of the most biologically diverse.

The El Yunque National Forest covers about 28,500 acres and is relatively compact as well. As a result a simplex system with a well located remote base probably works OK. Unit to unit traffic might not always work, but I would guess someone working the remote base has to relay traffic at times. I have no idea what the terrain looks like on this National Forest and how direct traffic between units is like.

This forest is overseen directly by a Forest Supervisor, with no Ranger Districts.

I'll bet I don't get a lot of feedback on this forest. It isn't listed in the database at all. I doubt it ever has. It would be great to get some feedback from a Puerto Rico resident or traveler.

A National Air Guard base is shown on the listing, however a location is not given.

El Yunque NF - East Peak Repeater
El Yunque NF - El Yunque Peak Repeater
El Yunque NF - Rio Grande Repeater

In Puerto Rico all systems and services use there Cell phones and telephones more than any radios its there weekest link after disasters and for emergency services but some services are getting better on radio usage because of federal mandations and more on the way

l should not that there is the Spanish language way to pronounce this National Forest, which most folks can probably do fairly easily. Then there is the Puerto Rican way of pronouncing it. The latter pronounces the "Y" as a "J" and not the straightforward way of pronouncing "J" either. I've heard is pronounced like the locals pronounce it and I can't seem to maneuver my mouth correctly.
