What may or may not be related to this, I am seeing a lot of new DOT radios showing up on the current 800 system. All with 44xxx-45xxx ID #'s.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9930; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.11+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0.0.362 Mobile Safari/534.11+)

This very well may be the start of the rollout of the new APX units for the DOT. I was told they would have seamless access to both systems during the transition.

The Toms River site on 800 is now showing Zone 12 and I believe John mentioned a change for a Troop B site. Looks like this all is related. I'm also seeing more radio denied by system today then usual. (Trunk88)

In regards to the 800 system, I heard the REMU people mention about "new 2500's" so I don't think they have APX models on 800 yet. Perhaps on 700 they do. I also heard them talking about a major software install happening this week or so. Sounds like they are preparing for some type of upgrade to the 800 system and a visit from motorola people. I guess they help out with major system upgrades.

Yesterday on 800 REMU 30 they were discussing one controller having been upgraded and a second already having been started. So whether the upgrade is rolling or they're preparing for a larger change.

One thing I did notice, on the 800 system, does it sound like the dispatchers are now P25 over analog to anyone else? Particularly for the GSP and NJTP dispatchers? I don't pick up the Somerset County system that often but it now sounds more like that, where it sounds digitally processed, but coming over analog talk groups for dispatch transmissions only.

Yep me too

I too hear the Smart X audio.

This would be the first step to allow mixed mode on the same TG with final transition to P25.

Here is the link from /\/\ that explains the bridge.

Actually they have completed their upgrades to the 7.9 platform which allows for mixed-mode and TDMA between systems. NJSP does indeed have a handful of APX radios; however, the most of the radios they will be using now are the XTS2500, XTS5000, XTL2500, and XTL5000 series. Eventually, both systems will migrate to TDMA digital but that is years out at this point; however, the sites are capable of the technology now. Also, the state is in the process of building out many more intelli-repeaters which still need to be installed across the state. There are many new upgrades coming to New Jersey; including tying in various outside agencies systems on the backend for true interoperability. For example: Burlington Counties TRS will be directly connected in the NJSP statewide system and users will eventually have the ability to roam to other UHF T-Band systems and sakes goes for 800 users, example being Atlantic City users traveling into Camden County and there radios will be able to migrate between the state system and the county systems respectively. Again, many years away from completion so long as someone doesn't piss in someone else's swimming pool too badly; we all know how that is around New Jersey.

With the upgrade to the 7.9 platform, could that be the reason the Radio ID's display faster and seem to follow the conversations better, you still don't get the ID when they are already talking when you stop on a TG, but switch back and forth better when each unit keys up after that.

I'd have to read the release notes but it's possible I suppose but I can't say for sure until I read the release notes on the 7.9 platform. In general, there are enhancements added all the time, the possibility of faster unit id's for integration with TDMA may have something to do with timing between systems, subscriber radios, etc.

Just a clarification - the 700 system will be run as X2/Phase-II when it gets on-line 100%, as all the repeaters being put up are the new GTR-8000's. The 800 system is Quantar-based, and is not capable of doing anything other than FDMA when it goes P25.

As Gerry said, the software upgrade to 7.9 is already done, they now have to get the sites patched directly back into the core via the new network infrastructure. What most people also don't realize about the current operation of the intelli-repeater sites is that they are programed for voice-over-control, and that feature is not available on P25 system. Just another minor issue to be resolved... ;)

Yes I know. I pull them out of Unitrunker and import them into excel. They cut and paste nicely into the HP-1.
