• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

well my New QT60 came today.... the 2 inches really look like it may make a nicer looking install so I'll take my 35 year old friend out of the F150 and sell it.... going to miss that radio ... but if I get $500 for the old girl and only paid $208 for the new one..... and the new one is that much better I'll get over my loss pretty quickly.
I keep recommending the older long version of the 5555 N II as it's CHEAP! and pretty much the same radio..... so I just finished reading the directions on the new short version QT-60.... I thought the CTC CW stuff was mostly the only difference and that is nothing I will ever play with..... but as I read the manual it's got a lot different.... I can actually tune in stations in the 100's compared to 1000's on the longer version..... again not worth it to me..... it also has a dimmer....lock the clarifier transmit.... volume changes on something that I don't even understand.... so it has a lot more to it..... but again for me using it as a CB it's nothing I needed or wanted... I just wanted the 2 inch smaller case......
now I'll have to range test it and make sure it really is better than my old radio before I put it on e-bay

If it was me I would use it as a base station until I was familiar with all the controls and menus. Enjoy your new radio!

My base is a 5555 N II. So I wanted to put the same radio in my mobile and actually bought two of them 15 months ago .... But I have been putting off exchanging my mobile radio as the 5555 N II just looked too big to be an easy switch.... So the controls "should" be the same ..... But good idea I will put it on the base for a while and see if anything is different

Yeah I wouldn't sell off your old radio. It has been a proven performer for you for many years. I have an old Cobra 148 Gtl that I will never part with.

I had a brand new never used 1989 Cobra 148 GTL that I kept on display for 35 years, just waiting for me to get my base station up.... it was truly a sparkling beauty.... I finally hooked it up last year for two days before deciding the guys here recommending the Anytone 5555 N II were 100% correct as the 5555 N II was a far better radio....
the 148 could not compete with the new NRC radios and all the 40 to 80 watt radios out there today... so after two days I sold it for $635 bucks!!!! and bought two of the 5555 N II for $259 each.....
the 148 I got two contacts across the county ......but just barely, and it was difficult..... spent an hour to get those two barely able to hear me contacts......
the 5555 I daily key the mic and ask if anyone has a copy on 155 in Massachusetts? I generally get 5 or 6 people coming back instantly from all across the country and many times from over seas
NO REGRETS!!!!!
my 35 year old President Grant export works about as well as the 5555 does and that's in a mobile!!!!!!! .... so I may miss it.... but if I get the money I think it will bring, I won't regret it either.
I think some collector ( or idiot) will pay $500 for it and it has a Astatic 575-m6 mic that always sell for $250 on e-bay..... so hoping to get over $600....
meaning I get $400 in my pocket and a better radio in my F150
but I keep putting it off as I do hate to let it go.... but now I have two brand new radios waiting for me to sell the old one..... the 5555 long version I bought 15 months ago and the QT-60 short version I just got..... NOPE ITS GOT TO GO

I guess if I had as much tied up in mobile radios I would do the same. But I will never part with my 148 Gtl because my late father bought it for me. I have made many contacts with it when I had it in use. I took it to Germany and made many contacts there as well.

AM is pretty quiet around here. Though I haven't tried to break into the traffic, I think the dirt haulers around here are running channel 3. Eventually I will when I think the timing is right. Today a sister in law and I went target practicing out in the desert. After dropping her off, on my way home I thought I would try LSB 37. She only lives about 1-1/2 miles from me. On my way home I was surprised that the band was pretty quiet, but after calling out for a bit, I had a contact with Vermont and upper New York. I talked with Vermont for at least 5 minutes.

that's AWESOME!!!! it seemed like forever you couldn't make a contact... I was always surprised... was that on the Tram 3500?

I put the 5555 N II in my truck on 08/10/2025.. and I have yet to make one contact on LSB??? I'm hoping I just haven't caught it when mother nature is working for us CB-ers

It was in jeep with the 4' Firestik. I installed a new QT40 in my truck yesterday and will spend some time tomorrow checking the swr's. My QT80 will eventually be a base station radio in my garage.
