• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an issue on V0.4.0.30.

When programming a P25 Trunking system, and setting a sub group as a 2-tone, the pager is recognizing it, but displays "Announcement" instead of the actual name I gave it in the PPS

On your knob position where you have the sub group for 2-tone, Scroll down to where it says "Talk Group Option" and change "Announcement Group ID" from 0 to 1.

Thats nice, thank you
Any chance you know what/why I the max for this is FFFF?
What else is this setting?

FFFF = 65535, the maximum number of talkgroups. On a system, FFFF is a "system call" talkgroup but for our purposes it's a wildcard which allows you to listen to everything active on a site without programming them all individually.

Now I am confused even more..

Having it set to 1, allows me to receive announcements for only 1 TGID, or one subgroup within the TGID? and increasing the number would do what?

You should not need to mess with the Talk Group Option area unless your dispatchers use announcement groups or multi-select to page your agency. The Announcement Group ID is where the talkgroup ID of the actual Announcement talkgroup goes.

if you're programming the pager to receive pages on a trunked talkgroup, simply set it up as you would for regular trunked monitoring, but put only the dispatch (or paging) talkgroup in the Priority Talkgroup list. Leave the Non-Priority list blank, and don't put any other talkgroups in the Priority list. Then click the Sub Group Setting button; the box that pops up should show the talkgroup you've put in the Priority Talkgroup list, simply click on the Sub-Group List field, and check the box for the set of paging tones you wish to use.

I haven't had a lick of trouble receiving pages on a P25 talkgroup when it's set up this way.
