How is it going with your WS 1080?

I find the battery compartment door harder to get off than what I think is needed but I guess that is better than it falling off. Still making my way through the EZScan software to get the results I want. Seems it could use an update compared to ARC500 that I used with the RS mobile. Had it with me in the Columbus area yesterday and it seemed to work just fine with over 3000 items loaded into it for the County. Radio wise I believe it is going just fine. Tried to get a case for it at Universal Radio yesterday but they didn't have either in stock. Actually, everything the guy I was with and I wanted they didn't have available. Was a very disappointing trip to the candy store. Think I might try to find another antenna to use on the WS1080 to see if it will outperform the stock duck but it seems to be good enough. Thinking about finding a mobile now...

Faster how?

A 32 GB card in your GRE/Whistler will not be faster by its nature compared to a 4 GB card. It will take longer to boot up .. but the only way you will see any "fastness" difference is if it is a faster class card. Bigger does not mean necessarily faster ... except at Costco.:lol:

Sorry, I must have gotten the last case from Universal. But they haven't shipped it yet so I don't have one yet either :(

As to the battery compartment door, yes, it is hard to remove. I figured out that if you press right at the top of it above the indentation and right at the seam, it is easier to remove. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, the last couple of trips to Universal Radio have resulted in them not having item(s) in stock.

I too figured that out about the door and pressing at the top but not before I used a little screwdriver on it when I first got it and felt I must be the weakest person in the world. Put a little nick in the door doing this though .

If a freq is being programmed that doesn't have a tone (CSQ), does putting Search in the Squelch field work the same way?

Yes. And you may also discover they are using a tone. ;-) But it works like CSQ.

I'm really enjoying my WS1080. EZ-Scan? It's a dog. But I use mine mostly for collecting data like Unit ID and Talkgroup info on conventional P25 frequencies. The recording index logs and shows the Unit ID, and you can sort the index by ID number, frequency, time, etc. Now if only EZ-Scan would also show columns for Talkgroup (not just on the selected recorded file up top), NAC (or tone), RSSI, and have the ability to copy and paste that data to something like Excel. That would make my logging much more useful. EZ-Scan needs that update!

If you have too many items, you're likely to not hear anything. That's because as you add more items to scan, the time required to check all frequencies and systems increases to where you're likely to miss more and more transmissions.

Just be careful with those cases, I recall reading some people in the past in reviews complaining some cases scratching the radios from the snaps on them. Some blocking the USB port or the LED light also.

I have quite a bit of stuff programmed into my radio, however I have created a favorite list also to limit the amount of things scanned at times.

Only problem I have with leather case is that it makes radio bigger and I cannot read screen because of reflection off the plastic covered screen.

I had also read that and that is why I went to Universal Radio so I could actually see one.

I was also not happy to hear that ports and/or lights were blocked. Might just have to wait until I see if I make it to Dayton to find a case that might work better.

I just got my WS1080 yesterday and ran the updates, already really liking this scanner a lot. I was a little concerned about not having much of a keypad, already past that and really like it not having one. This thing picks up stuff great, sounds good through speaker or ear buds, can even pick up Hammond/East Chicago without going upstairs, like with the PSR500. I have several antennas, mostly use the RS 800mhz and the Diamond RH77CA. Digital and conventional both sound good. Tried the location way of programming, but I find it better making my own scan lists with what I want, just going to keep playing with the programming some more. So far I am very satisfied with the WS1080, plus now I am ready for when the county makes it conversion to the 700mhz P25 Phase 2 system in a couple months if everything is on schedule with that.
Your county is not changing to Phase II. In fact, no part of Indiana is going to Phase II anytime in the foreseeable future. Your county is phase 2 of a six phase state changeover to P25 Phase I.

I see where it has to be able to link to Pass II, but not necessarily operate in Phase II. I find it hard to believe they are going to use Phase II, since they would not be able to intercommunicate with State, DNR, and neighboring counties. That is the the whole reason the state Safe-T system is going to Phase I state-wide, so everybody is on the same page.

Phase II and Phase I are completely interoperable, when a phase I radio affiliates to a phase II system that talkgroup becomes Phase I. Likewise a phase II radio already is capable of phase I and can work on a Phase I system.

Not always. The talkgroup has to be configured to allow that. A tg can be locked to phase 2 (or phase 1) only.

Is the discriminator tap a true tap able to decode more than unitrunker? Things such as PDW?
