I think the only time scanlist tag (General Settings) is used in scanner is when user toggles scanlist numbers

And when showing CONV objects (alternates with CONV object tag).

The reason there's no option for centering or justifying the scan list tags is that there are only 20 of them - it's pretty easy to just add/remove spaces from the beginning of each one.

I just got my RS cable in (20-546), ...unfortunately not my scanner yet tho :(.

Anyway, I installed the 2.08.02 driver update via the setup executable file as suggested by Don earlier in this thread.

But the latest update (2.08.08) doesn't have a setup exe file to download in the comments.

How do I go about installing that one? Thanks

Win500 / Pro 106

Just got my Pro 106 (which will replace/augment my 2- Pro97's). ---> Thank you Santa!

Downloaded the Win500 software, extracted to a separate directory/folder, created a shortcut, click on Win500 and all comes up just as it should. I can import from the RR database some stuff just to test.. No luck uploading!

So, I see in the menu, D/L Pro-97 files, which I do, create and save the file, then plug in the Pro 106 with the RS 20-247 interface cable then try to upload to the 106 and nothing- The 106 isn't communicating with the software. There is no CLONE mode showing on the Pro 106 scanner.

Unplug the 1/8 mono adapter and try the stereo plug to the P106 - still nothing. The scanner just sits as says nothing to scan and the software times out quickly with scanner not found (or something to that effect).

So... what am I doing wrong? I've checked COM ports and it set the same as the WIN97 software (Com 4). Using Properties ./ Hardware / Device Manager, in XP (3), it shows USB adapters
Interl (R) 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Serial Converter

Unplug the programming cable and "USB Serial Converter" goes away from USB Host Controller list.

It still works just FINE on the 2 PRO97 scanners, but nothing doing on the Pro106????

I've clicked Properties on the "USB Serial Converter" and picked update driver, which I found in the Pro97 folder, and some things ( a buunch of .DLL's) moved and looks like it updated just fine.

Still NOTHING on the p106 when plugging the cable from the USB port to the programming cable to the P106 - still works fine on the Pro-97 files.

Lest I give it up? What am I missing???

I should mention that I am running all of this on an old IBM Thinkpad, which is ancient by todays standard, but it has worked flawlessly for years.... It is only USB1, not high speed, but that should not make any difference.

In fact, I still have an iTunes program running on it for an olde Ipod , so as not to contaminate that with my iPhone 4 whcih I use on a different comptuer. Works fine, ....slow.. but works just fine.

UPDATE - so I find this new file to D/L and unzip for different drivers to use with WIN500. Nothing seems to happen, so I go to Explore / Hardware / Device Manageer / USB , right click on update driver, point to the new directory wehre these new files are - it moves some DLL's and says OK/FINISH.

Now, as soon as I plug in the programming cable the comptuer locks up - there is NO escape except a hard turn off, then reboot, and now in a circle of freeze up and hard re-boot.
And, now neither the Pro97 or P106 wont' read or do anything.....

** SOS* - PON PON PON ** what is happening?

DO NOT use short mono adapter on 20-047. Insure sterio plug is in PC/IF jack on side of scsnner rather then ear phone jack.

Here is another piece of the puzzle.

With the programming cord completely disconnected from the computer, using either the mono plug or the stereo plug, when plugged into the side of either Pro 97, the screen immediately goes into the "CLONE" mode.

When the cable is plugged into the Pro106, NOTHING happens - no beep, nothing on the display showing "Clone mode" or anything. Either cable mono or stereo...

Therein may lie something amiss....

The only thing showing on the P106 display is "Press NEW to create objects", or if I press SCAN, it says "NOTHING ENABLED" Pushing any other button does nothing except of course, WX or SEARCH and it scans through 6 or 7 'bands'..

So, given plugging in the cable on the 97s shows CLONE MODE, but does nothing when plugged in the P106 indicate anything?

And, yes, I deleted all the drivers for the pro-97 USB/Serial and reinstalled sucessfully the 2.0.8 drivers, although it did not take me through the examples as shown on the driver D/L install screeens as shown. I just did 'delete" then when new hardware found on the cable, pointed it to the new driver directory/files.

Dang.. new radio and can't use it! [YET]

97 only exchanges data from/to radio to PC. 106 will operate remotely and continue to function regardless of plug into PC/IF Jack. I keep three plugged in all the time at this PC. With the 106 you can also run UniTrunk or Pro96Com from PC/IF Jack while scanner is running on a qualified TSYS system.

So, back to the basics..... How do I get my comptuter to use WIN500 and transfer the data to the radio?

With cable plugged into USB port open Win500>check Configeration Menu>select Programming cables. Use listed port. Then use Scanner Menu to upload or download.

DE is V-Scanner 17. North Texas is V-scanner 09 with Piano in Scanlist 17.

It seems to me as if you are trying to use the wrong cable. The PRO-97 and the PRO-106/107 (if these are truly clones of the GRE PSR-500/600) use different cables.

In the interest of accuracy you might want edit your post as follows: The PRO-97 and the PRO-106/107 (if these are truly clones of the GRE PSR-500/600) MAY use different cables. A look at Dons Pro97 page links to this page. Any cable that works with the PSR 500 family WILL work with Pro=97.

I think I've got it communicating w/ the comptuer. I AM using this cable -->RadioShack as RS catalog #20-047. which further says.....One of the above cables (#20-047) is required for the PSR-500 family scanners (PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197).

When using for the Pro 97, I need the little 4 inch dongle (from stereo to mono) patch cord, and do NOT need it for the Pro 106.

Deleted and reloaded WIN500 only (for now) w/ drivers, and using the above cable w/out the 'adapter" it seems to be working now. I was able to D/L the content of the scanner. Now just working on new scan lists I want in the various list's.

Just a huge learning curve between the two scanners and how things are "organized:" from the older Win97 software. Still learning!!

That might be true, but if you have the old PRO-97 cable, it WILL NOT work with the GRE PSR digital family or clones. I know, I have both.

When you say the "pro 97 cable" - which one are you speaking of? A part number?

I am able to use the RS Part # 20-047 on BOTH the pro 106 and the older Pro 97 radio. The older one uses the stereo to mono dongle and the new one doesn't.

I hope you're not telling us that it wont work.

If you carefully read the page I linked earlier in this thread (this page) you should see a list of cables that will work with all of the GRE-made scanners, including the Pro-97. Also notice that GRE-scanner expert Don Starr explicity states That adapter is not required for any GRE-made scanner, and it must not be used with the PSR-500 family scanners. While you can use the "dongle" with your Pro-97, it will work as well without it.

The 'older' Radio Shack cable that works on the Pro-97 but not on newer GRE-made scanners is Radio Shack part number 20-289.

Quick Question:

I have D/L WIN500 but am unable to get it up and running. Have researched various threads but still unable to determine System requirements.

Running Win7, 64 bit. Is Win500 compatible? Have tried to load in folder created for extracted files and running in Admin mode.(UAC disabled) still no joy.

Win-500 Problem

OK
This is the problems I have with Win-500.
(I have a HP DV2-1030US, Vista 64 bit, Pro-106. I also run I tracker III, Bctools, Freescan, Pro96com and Win96 on this computer. This is my main radio programming computer).

01. Crashes, just stops working and shuts down.
02. Slow to save any and all changes deletions. (problem only with win500)
03. Slow with any changes or deletions.

It is fast up/down loading programming and does a good job in general.
