Hi, I live in Beamsville and I bought a BCD996XT.
Could some one please send me the file so I can program this unit? Since this is my first scanner, I have no idea what the range of these things are.
Could I listen to Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara and New York?
Anyway here is my email address:

Thank you.

Usually about a 25 mile radius. You can use EZ Grab in FreeScan. Click on database above and go to the county/city page. Copy and paste the frequencies and tags into FreeScan EZ Grab then upload them into your scanner.

Dumb question but how far is a 25 mile radius?

I tried the copy/paste thing but it wouldn't put in a description/title on the frequencies with EZ Grab. Did I miss something?

Hello fellow neighbor!. I am in Beamsville as well and I can pick up Toronto, Peel, some of Halton's systems all on my BCD996T. Dont forget the Niagara Falls, Fonthill, and Hamilton(occasionally for me) on the Bell fleetnet system.

Since I have a 996T maybe if I was to use FreeScan my file might be compatible and might not, maybe some fellow RR.com members can elaborate on it. Feel free to PM me.

How did you program your scanner? Could you listen to the OPP feeds?

It's about 40 km

On EZGrab, did you set the headers to the correct ones?

With the regular antenna you should be able to get the Fonthill and Niagara Towers, you won't hear feeds, you will hear actual broadcasts live of the OPP, MOH, MTO patrols and enforcement as well as occasional MNR units.

With a better antenna you might be able to pick up Mowat-Toronto or Charlton.

I'm going to try my CM-3679 and CM-4228HD antenna's out with the preamp. Even though that is all with RG-6 could it work or will it damage the unit? The 3679 is VHF and has a rotor and is about 40 feet high, the other one is fixed and is UHF only while pointed at Buffalo.

25 miles is about 40 kilometers. With a good setup you should be able to pull in towers that are within about 40 kilometers of your location. For you it will also make a difference if you are up on the escarpment. Beamsville is about 20 kilometers from the Fonthill tower of the Bell Fleetnet system - detailed in the Radioreference database.

Different systems

Could I also tune in to Modern Landfill. school bus, Falls View Casino, basically all the 'Talk Wireless' stuff?
Also what is OnQue? Can I tune in to that? https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8070

You should just program the frequencies or systems into your scanner and see what you will pick up, also OnQue is a NXDN NEXEDGE digital system, you will need a scanner with a discriminator tap and then you can run DSD+ decoding software to listen to it if your interested in what is on this system.

The only way to see if you can pick up these frequencies is to try with your scanner and antenna.

Ahh.. how it would be so nice to just copy an paste everything from 'Niagara County Ontario - Downloads and Reports', even though I'm sure there will be a lot of deleting afterwords.

Why not try and put in frequencies from the Database and see if you pick anything ???

Any idea what the range is with these scanners? I was wondering if they can come out to my area, or maybe they are to weak? That's all, just curious. :)

Depends on many factors, such as transmitter power, terrain between you and the transmitter, antenna height, and ground elevation. Reception up to 100 miles (about 60 km) is possible - more under enhanced band conditions.
