I'm here a lot
Depends on many factors, such as transmitter power, terrain between you and the transmitter, antenna height, and ground elevation. Reception up to 100 miles (about 60 km) is possible - more under enhanced band conditions.

Hate to pick nits Joe but 100 miles is 160 km FYI.

GLAD i COULD HELP ROBMAN50. not knowing the terrain or the systems, i really wasn't sure what your range of reception would be. Not knowing your antenna either I really didn't send you much on the state side as I thought you were more interested on the canadian side. But good listening and hope you uncover lots of good traffic. Scanners give you the news, before it hits the paper , or does not hit the paper.

I don't know why but the 996xt keeps locking on to TPS and not Fonthill or Hamilton. Could it be because the TPS channel is very active? My antenna's are aimed towards Buffalo so the Toronto channels should be weak but they are still very strong.
I'm thinking that TPS is a very active network while the others are not.

Which way is your antenna pointing? Mine just seems to be interested in Toronto. Maybe I joined in at the wrong time?

I have a couple of WSM 1900's which I think are supposed to be omnidirectional. They are in a corner room on the second floor of the house - the room points more-or-less ENE. But you are a lot closer to T.O. than I.

Those antenna are on a couple of SDR dongles.

This kind of sucks. I can not get this at all. Niagara and Burlington Area OPP I expect it to be very busy today because of all the accidents on the QEW but my scanner won't tune in. What am I doing wrong?

8736 Niagara Region 5G - 1OPS43 has been busy all day long, off the Skylon tower and the Fonthill tower, also other OPP talkgroups are very busy off these two towers.
