I'm having troubling scanning channels from NJICS on my sds100. I know this for sure because I have the archives playing on my computer, while the scanner is silent. What could be the issue?

Are you aware that Morris County has its own P25 system? There are no talkgroups for Morris County listed on NJICS. I see 4 sites for Morris County on NJICS. What are you interested in monitoring? How many sites do you have programmed?

I'm aware, that's what I scan mainly, along with some other conventional. I'm mostly looking at scanning Bergen, Passaic, and Essex County areas NJICS. The one I tried last night was Fairfield PD (essex) which is 7 miles away.

Questions for you:
- What software are you using to program?
- Are the service types enabled for the talkgroups you want to listen to? (see "Tag" field in DB)
- Have you programmed in only the sites monitorable to you?

Focus on the "County" field in the system frequencies table. Only program in the sites for the counties you want to hear (assuming you can pick up their control channels)
I'm confused on this, how do I program in specific sites?

If you want to reliably monitor a single TG using a mobile antenna on the SDS100, you'll first need to make sure you're getting solid reception on a relevant simulcast, which for Fairfield I'm guessing your best bet might be West Orange assuming you're in range - the SDS can struggle with a small antenna if there's much distance involved (the town of interest may come through on other simulcasts as well - I'm sure someone can explain that far better than myself). I do this pretty routinely with my SDS100 using the site hold function, and once you know what works best you can also customize a FL to keep the scanner off other sites if you're just scanning from a fixed location. Also worth noting, even with strong reception on NJICS, I've found mine will occasionally lose it's lock on the control frequency and refuse to receive until rebooted. This happens randomly when I leave it parked to record my local PD for weeks at a time. Pretty rare though.
