The member that made that map is no longer a member here, and he says he's not even sure he has the master image anymore...

As you can tell I'm a little bitter and don't trust it at all. Most municipalities in the county don't need this system. An analog smartzone system for the county like Somerset did wouldve been better. They were given the chance in the 80's or 90's to do that and shot it down. Relying on a county system is one thing, but the state system is so out there to get support its just brutal...

Regardless of if it were the ICS, or anything else however, I do believe the absolute best route for Union County would be to eliminate all municipal dispatch and centralize it at the county. Make sooooo much more sense.

Maybe a better way to go about this would be for everyone over in the north east side color in a map somehow of exactly which site they can receive and where. I would like to see how far the WO & Union sites actually reach.

Would it be safe to assume the union site would cover the southern end of 287 & 440 now?

I can hear the west orange site in Goshen NY (Orange County )

However I am using a preamp and a beam
Anttena to do so.

Yes Union Site Covers 287 in the Woodbridge -South Plainfield - Picataway Area but the sites keep switching back and fourth at one point i was getting the watergap site for about a minute along with new Brunswick and a site from hunterdon county area with my Pro-668 Stock Ant Looks like the Watchung Mtm site is the reason y im having problems with union county before they added it to UC i was able to get 100% copy from UC now its about 60%

That is definitely not the way to go... Centralized dispatches are awful. Consolidation doesn't work, seen that fail many times...

WO & Mountainside & Watchung

West Orange & Mountainside & Watchung are all horses of a different color. Why? Each are impacted by terrain. This terrain has significant shadowing and multi-path, especially close in to the sites as there are deep shadows up to 3-5 miles from those ridges.

The Southern end of 440/287 has coverage issues from any of these sites, in this order, least to most coverage, WO, Mountainside, Watchung.

Back Filling with RF directional west ( PSEG Tower Edison or Piscataway) would work best. Somerset County does this with a TX\RX site in Green Brook that back fills into the ridge.

As for my location with feedline AMP and filters I get all three ( my line of sight is mostly in a valley to all three), however mobile along the highways of the ridges and a few miles east or west of the terrain, anything is possible.

I'm up here in Warren County, and it works swimmingly well up here, as well as next door in Hunterdon & across the river in Northampton County, PA. I guess every geographic area has it's potential to work or not (unfortunately, almost all the drama seems to be caused along political lines).

A congrats to the guys here that quickly figured out the site change for Watchung. My friend that has access to CAPRAD for work looked up the recent changes by the state & it confirmed the move of Watchung to the Union County simulcast. I guess the original site in Plainfield did not give them the coverage they needed...

Where have you seen it fail?
I've seen plenty of places try to do it. Radio and other industries. You can't put all those moving parts in one body. Simple municipal dispatch centers havent had an issue yet and if you believe the whole interoperability theory Motorola is spewing then they have scammed you too.

That is an issue of just barely any municipalities to begin with.

I was having lunch in Linden today at my favorite pizzeria & 3 officers doing roadwork duty came in to pick up meals. Definitely the same 6000Li's like my friend from MPD carries...

Receiving the West Orange site is still a challenge in some places in Union County unless you're running a band specific antenna, or a base antenna. Even in Cranford, with a Larsen BMAX on the truck, it's not entirely usable depending on conditions. With a 5/8ths wave tuned for 774MHz, it's acceptable.
