I can assure you that you will won't see non-fully paramedic units dispatched on critical calls. The lower staffing is ONLY for routine transfers. I was "on the job" for 14 years... 24 hour shifts, 12 hour shifts, 8 hour shifts and it was in Atlanta, Norman, and in OKC. Please, trust me, EMSSTAT is in good hands with people that have a long history and truly care about the level of care delivered.

BOOMER!

BOOMER!

There's not a doubt in my mind that the folks on the street care ... they are rarely the problem.

Given the continuous unit shortages -- Crew Chiefs are often sent on runs with fire because no ambo is available -- it's inevitable.

The crews will hate it, the crew chiefs will hate it, and the people of Norman will never know ... until they have to call ... and wait ... and wait ... and wait.

No ambos available today. Crew chiefs and 100 responding with fire. 7x units on emergency calls.

Just another day ...

Just for reference and I'm just asking....Have you eve worked the streets as a medic? Ihave NEVER known of any system that can't be stretched thin. NOBODY can staff for every possibility, not even the 23,000 man FDNY.

6 years, thanks. Probably about 3 years too long with 20 years of hindsight.

Holding up FDNY as an example isn't really a good way to make your point. FDNY's hostile takeover of NYC*EMS was supposed to "fix everything" but it was more about Rudy's abject hatred of EMS (not unwarranted - his friend had chest pains back in 88 or 89, when he was still DA or whatever he was, and they waited 2 hours for the bus).

This is a fun site: http://fdnyemswebsite.com/

Norman's system is "stretched thin" more often than not. Lots of EMS systems are stretched thin ... Doesn't make it right.

EMSSTAT mobile intensive care unit

All over the paper this morning. Anyone know it's unit number? I assume 70-something, since it's not responding to 9-1-1 calls.
_____________

It will not have a unique unit number..... when dispatched it will assume the number of the crew/unit it is replacing.....

Every hospital in the state is required to have the HEAR system on VHF if they receive any emergency patients. It doesn't have to be used if they choose to communicate via other means, but they still have to have it. Hell, they have even put a CB in it just in case that is the only way some small community can communicate with them.

You are correct, TINY is it's nickname. There are only about 50 of this type of unit in the U.S. and only 3 of them are equipped like EMSSTAT's. Norman is extremely lucky to have such a prize. A large amount of the cost of this unit was funded by donations and the NRHS Auxillay.

NFD Tanker 6?

Did I hear a Tanker 6 on the air the other day? Since I haven't seen mention of the city buying a new Tanker, can I assume they finally moved the tanker from Station 1 (surrounded by hydrants) to Station 6 (miles from those same hydrants)?

Have you seen the new construction on Station 8 on NW 36th. They must have had the contract ready to go as soon as the sales tax was passed.
