If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

NX-5000 GPS with PTT on NXDN Conventional

This is a bit of an esoteric question, so please bear with me.

I have several NX-5800 mobiles in use with my organization. We are mainly using NXDN conventional for mobile-to-mobile communication in a SAR context. I have the radios programmed to send GPS data with PTT, but this causes a delay between pressing the PTT button and the beginning of the voice transmission. This delay is significant, roughly 3/4 of a second to one second. Even with Talk Permit Tone active, our users are routinely short-micing themselves and it's causing a lot of frustration and miscommunication out in the field. With the GPS receiver in the radio turned off but no other settings changed, this delay disappears.

With analog Fleetsync, you can set the GPS string to only send at EOT (end of transmission) but so far I have not found a combination of settings that allows this in NXDN conventional. I am wondering if anyone knows a way to force the GPS string to transmit at EOT in NXDN conventional.

I have attached a screenshot of my GPS settings in Personal Features --> NXDN --> GPS

Thank you!

GPS is sent with the data stream, not as a preamble, nor post. Turn off ACK.

Your OTAA, GPS, and all that is embedded. I'd say something else is lagging your comms. (Programming)

Unless your using kas 10 or 20, turn off status. Console can request gps without that as is. If your not using a console, then this is all moot. The radios won't show posits on other radios, only consoles.

Status gps will transmit gps when a status is sent.

another thing to do, dsd+ decode your data to see what its really doing. that will give a clue to whats going on.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the response. I turned off ACK. I hear what you're saying about the GPS being sent interlaced in the data stream, but that does not seem to match what I am seeing in NXDN conventional simplex operation.

With GPS set to "Voice Call" and the GPS antenna turned on, there is an additional 3/4 second delay between pushing the PTT button and hearing the PTT Proceed Tone. This delay goes away completely if I turn the GPS antenna off in the radio, or in a zone that has GPS "Voice Call" turned off.
