I received an email notice from Uniden that said I'd successfully generated a key for my scanner, and the key was included in the email, as usual.

I checked the "myUniden" account again, and it's still giving me the option to "Purchase NXDN Key," so that may mean something. I'm afraid to launch the whole purchase process again, because I don't want to be charged for two keys.

Something's missing. Most likely pilot error on my part, but I can't think what I could have done wrong.

Any other ideas?
That sounds like a question for Paul. I have no idea. If you have the key it should work.

If the scanner you are trying to add NXDN to already has the DMR key (presuming you added that), you should be able to log into MYUNIDEN, and click on the "All My Scanners" link. If the scanner is in your list, just click on the link for 'Purchase NXDN Key". I have two 436HPs, so I have to make sure to choose the one I update.

As bearcat noted, if the scanner is already registered for you, you don't need to re-enter the serial #, ESN, or checksum.

Take a close look at groups on the keys. I typo'd one of mine the first try when I misread a character.

Thanks, hiegtx.

I did indeed log into "myUniden" and clicked on the "Purchase NXDN Key" link for my '436 (which is registered there with the correct ESN and Checksum). That took me to the purchase card page, which I filled out, and that generated the email from Uniden with the key . . . all the standard steps.

I've VERY carefully entered that key five times now and have received the same "Incorrect key entered . . ." message each time.

When I log back into the "myUniden" page, I do notice that the line with my '436 info still gives me the option to "Purchase NXDN" key, so something may be incomplete somewhere.

This could certainly be pilot error on my part, but I can't think what I'm doing wrong.

Any possibility you have more than one MyUniden account? That's presuming you don't have two or more x36HP scanners that could take the upgrade.

Sounds like the same scanner may be registered twice, once with the correct serial #, one entered incorrectly. And you did log back into MyUniden, right? And it still shows 'purchase NXDN key"? Any chnce you accidentally selected ProVoice key instead of NXDN? (You have already installed the firmware for NXDN support? Otherwise, you would not have the menu item on the scanner to update for NXDN; only DMR & ProVoice would be there.)

So, does the NXDN upgrade utilize the control channel for trunking, or does it work more like the Whistler TRX series, which supposedly don't utilize the control channel to follow conversations?

It is using the control channel and tracking the system, on the public safety NXDN systems in use in my area.

I certainly have the key, but this is starting to feel like it's trying to activate the wrong scanner. I only have one '436, and it's registered in "myUniden."

Paul? Are you out there?

Strange . . . I got back into "myUniden," and it's giving me a key for ProVoice, but not for NXDN.

I don't remember ever upgrading to ProVoice, and I definitely clicked on the "Purchase NXDN" link this time around.

I think I'll take a chance and go ahead and try purchasing NXDN again. If it works this time, and I get billed twice, I'll check to see if Uniden customer service can do something about that.

Yeah, sounds like somehow, you accidentally hit 'ProVoice' the first time. I bet that your order, on whatever card you used, shows a cost of $60 (for ProVoice) instead of the NXDN intro price of $30.

It trunks. That's why there is a charge. (royalties to be paid to DVSI)

I just re-purchased the NXDN upgrade, and it downloaded successfully!

If I accidentally purchased the ProVoice upgrade, I'll probably go ahead and download it, even though I'd rarely use it (nearest system is approximately 100 miles away and reportedly switching to P25 soon). I just noticed that the key I've been trying to enter for NXDN shows up as the key for ProVoice on "myUniden," so this could certainly have been my mistake in the first place.

Time now to punch in a few local NXDN frequencies and see how sound!

Thanks for all the feedback!

I think you're right, although I can't for the life of me figure out how I hit ProVoice, instead of NXDN.

Oh well, at least I was on the ground, and not at 35,000 feet, if I hit the wrong button.

Thanks!

Your NXDN Key is

No, the first email from Uniden just said "You have successfully generated a key for your scanner. Your key is . . . "

The second email from Uniden said "You have successfully generated a key for your scanner. Your NXDN key is . . ."

The first email didn't mention ProVoice in the subject line; it just said "MyUniden.com Order XXXXX." The second email subject line said "MyUniden.com Order XXXXX NXDN Key." (The order number "X's are mine, just in case there's something sensitive about the real order numbers.)

One more interesting thing . . . both Uniden emails reference the same order number. I'd have thought Uniden would have given me a different order number for each purchase.

Paul?

Was ProVoice the first mode released? I believe it was. Hence, it was the only key at the time and specificity was not required. Regardless, perhaps Uniden should update that to Your ProVoice key...
