NXDN is cool, thanks, but my federal conventional SCANNING is back to hanging up on P25 encryption and recording "dead (muted) air" with this firmware update (or is that downdate?). I can appreciate that type of operation in SEARCH MODE, as you want to see what's out there...ENC or not, but now we are back to the same problem we had way back (several firmware levels back, and to the beginning) of wasted scan time and recording space on ENC traffic. I looked in all the menus for a way to turn this off, but no user select option exists. Why was skip ENC on CONVENTIONAL SCAN removed? It worked well to keep the scanner scanning, and only stopping on traffic you can actually hear (in the clear).
I can no longer record my federal traffic...because it will be 90% dead air to get 10% clear traffic. Before I was only recording 100% stuff I could actually hear. That worked. Thank God my 996P2 and 325P2 still skip over ENC, but there is no recording function on those scanners. Better be careful on doing any firmware updates for those! Other than commercial radios that skip ENC on scan, the P2 series is the only viable option left at this point. Not happy about that part of the firmware "downgrade".
